Tips for Duke University Primate Center

5.0
November 19, 2006

only place to see these animals. Unassuming and tucked away, the Primate Center is one of the only places in the country you can see many of these lemurs and other treasures. Take a tour with your younger kids and make them feel like they're own their own special retreat. This is a working lab, with studies always underway. The animals are very well cared for and the habitats are superb. The best habitats are the large outdoor enclosures that allow animals to interact at will, thereby allowing scientists to study social structures. Take a class at the university or ask about camps or workshops that might get you into the enclosures with the animals. One of the best experiances I had at Duke.

Home to the world's largest colony of endangered primates.. In Short
This center is a full-service, one-stop lemur viewing locale, with bamboo lemurs, ring-tailed lemurs, black-and-white ruffed lemurs, red ruffed lemurs and the blue-eyed lemur, the only non-human primate with blue eyes. The center is also home to such critters as the aye-aye, coquerels sifaka and the only golden-crowned and diademed sifakas found outside of Madagascar. Tours by appointment only.
