Outstanding Wedding Venue – one out-of-state Mom’s opinion!.
(Posted at request of Mother of the Bride)
My review of the Governor’s Club is from an out-of-state Mother’s perspective. This brings a whole new level to planning a wedding! We began the process 13 months before the wedding. We found the Governors Club after searching for a reception venue that would provide the setting my daughter wanted for her wedding. We had spent several weeks chasing down other venues, only to be disappointed.
Our first meeting with Lisa Johnson at Governors Club was a breath of fresh air. The facility was elegant with all the appropriate appointments. The ballroom was large and had beautiful views from every window. Our first meeting was to discuss the general ideas for the wedding. Lisa spent as much time with us as we needed, every time we met. Each time that I came into town and requested a meeting or a visit, Lisa was accommodating. Approximately three and a half months before the meeting, our food and wine tasting was arranged. Lisa, our daughter and fiancé, my husband and I all met in the dining room. The head chef had prepared a sampling of items that he suggested for our buffet. Every dish was beautifully presented and the Chef explained each dish to us. We had several family members who have food allergies and the Chef made a point of assuring us that there would be food available to meet those needs as well. We left the tasting quite stuffed and very happy with our choice of selections for both food and wine. The Club went above and beyond all my expectations on food and wine choices based on our budget for the reception. Every time we met with Lisa, she kept assuring us that they would do all of the decorating for us that day and make sure that everything was in place. I was rather concerned because my daughter had very specific, detailed instructions for the placement of photos, candles, bows, wine bottles, etc. I had to completely trust Lisa’s staff as we could not come to the Club prior to the wedding that Saturday. Our final meeting with Lisa was about three weeks prior to the wedding. We met with Lisa, the banquet manager and one of his staff for 3 hours. This meeting was a complete review of every detail of the reception. Lisa had previously spoken with most of our vendors (wedding cake, DJ, florist, pianist) and coordinated times with them. Lisa and the staff took notes throughout the meeting. I said to my daughter as we walked out of the meeting, that if they could pull off everything she had requested, I would sing their praises to everyone (which I have done every since the wedding). Everything was perfect the day of the wedding. We arrived at the Club after the cocktail reception had begun. The staff had everything under control; hors d'oeuvres were being passed as well as cocktails. Continuously throughout the night, the staff saw to our every need. At one point, I needed a safety pin from the “bride’s emergency kit”. Stephen, Lisa’s assistant that night, was quick to go to Lisa’s office and return with the pin. Right up to the end of the night, the staff was professional, attentive and excellent. The service of the staff continued the next day when we returned to gather gifts, flowers and other reception items. Everyone helped us load everything which took several trips to our cars.
We had such a suburb experience at the Governor’s Club that I would recommend it for any wedding reception. The caring attention that we received made the event enjoyable for us and all of our guests. Many of them have commented how beautiful the facility was, how delicious the food was and what a wonderful time they had that evening. This is due, in large part, to the great organizational skills of Lisa Johnson and her staff!
Over the Top Wedding.
You hear the phrase "exceed the clients expectations" used so often and Governors Club took it to a new level. Our daughter's wedding was flawless and our guests continue to email us with every compliment imaginable. Lisa Johnson was a joy to work with from start to finish with great attention paid to every little detail. Every request we made seemed no obstacle and just seemed to happen. The food was superb and the flow of the evening was perfect.
Governors Club should be every young bride's first choice. The ONLY thing I would have changed about Saturday was my shoes!!

Excellent Food!. Excellent food for all occasions.
Spectacular Wedding!. We held our daughter's wedding at GC on June 4. The outdoor setting for the ceremony was perfect and the reception was wonderful. The most complementary superlatives from our guests continued to be heard for days after the event: classy, beautiful, just perfect, etc. Lisa and the GC staff were great from initial planning to execution on wedding day. We could not be more please with everything.
Fabulous Service, Food, Ambiance for Our Wedding. Why are there not six stars here to give Lisa Johnson and her staff at Governors Club? Our wedding there was right out of Camelot. My wife and I felt like royalty all day long and several of our guests told us it was the best wedding they have ever attended. That is thanks to the professional staff at Governors Club and its versatile facility. Ours was a rather intimate event, but the attention we received was not impacted in any way by its size. Every couple should be so blessed with care like this.
Great Wedding Venue.
We had a perfect wedding reception from start to finish at the Governors Club on October 23, 2010. We decided on this venue for our reception because of two major things, one we were the ONLY wedding there and knew all attention would just us for our special day. Two, Lisa Johnson the event coordinator, she went above and beyond to make sure everything ran smoothly. During the 9 months of planning, Lisa was there every step of the way, she was extremely professional and remembers every detail. The golf course greens made a wonderful setting for my pictures. As for the food, it was outstanding. Many of our 170 guests complemented the crab stuffed shrimp and lobster bisque. Both sides of our families are still receiving rave reviews on our wedding reception, we are so happy that everything turned out so perfect.
I would recommend the Governors Club to any bride and groom getting married in North Carolina!
Governors Club Wedding Venue A+. We had a fabulous wedding and reception at the Governors Club on October 16, 2010. Lisa Johnson, event coordinator, is the reason we chose The Governors Club as our wedding venue. As the mother of the bride, I wanted a beautiful setting for my daughter's wedding but just as importantly I wanted to work with people who were professional, prompt, and courteous. Lisa met with us many times during the 7 month engagement. She was responsive to our every request. The food was outstanding, the weather was picture perfect and our 150 guests are still raving about what a special wedding Lauren and Wes had at the Governors Club. Make sure and ask for Lisa Johnson when you check out the Club for your wedding venue. You will not be disappointed. She is awesome!
Wedding of my dreams!!!!.
I would like to take this opportunity to commend the entire Governors Club staff on providing us with an exceptional experience for our wedding reception.
We could not have asked for anything more. The service was impeccable. Every detail, no matter how small, was thoroughly covered. Lisa Johnson, our event coordinator, was on top of everything following through on every single detail. The banquet staff made all of our guests feel truly welcomed and very well taken care of.
The ballroom was absolutely gorgeous, along with the whole presentation including the fabulous dinner. The following day we enjoyed a wonderful brunch, which again was top notch!
Words cannot express enough our sincere thanks to the Governors Club team for your help in creating a very memorable weekend.
Wedding Venue: The Perfect Find.
We started our search for a wedding/reception venue in April of 2010 and after we visited Governors Club and met with Lisa Johnson, we knew our search was over. We did check out a few other places in the Triangle, but we felt that the Governors Club was the right fit for us. We held our ceremony and reception at Governors Club last weekend and we couldn't be happier with the way that everything turned out. We made a few trips to the Governors Club between April and October for food tastings, planning meetings, and creative design sessions. The staff was so accomodating and welcoming each time we met with them.
We did most of the planning ourselves, but Lisa was so helpful in recommending various vendors and tracking down rentals for the things that we couldn't take care of on our own. Another huge plus is that the Club does their own catering, but you are free to select whatever florist, bakery, photographer, DJ, decor that you wish in order to create your own unique celebration.
Speaking of food, it was AMAZING! Often times, the bride and groom don't get to eat at their own reception, but the staff at Governors Club had a solution for that. One of the staff members took care of my husband and I the whole night. She brought food to us at the beginning of the reception and she kept our drinks full all night. This enabled us to spend more time with our guests.
If you are interested in a wedding reception venue where you won't have to worry about the details and you will be given all the attention that you need to feel comfortable during your planning process, look no further. Governors Club is the place for you.
The place is nice except for the people.
The golf is outstanding, we all love it. As for the residents, some of the unnecessarily defensive comments posted speak volumes about the type of people that call Governors Club home.
I am surprised by some of the posts on this site, as everyone knows there are members who are in the pockets of the administration.
