What People Are Saying About Joe & Jo's Downtown

In Short – This cozy, mellow hangout attracts mostly 30-somethings who crave good conversation and cold beer. The mishmash decor of '50s-era tables and bar stools, old cinema posters and photographs of France give more of a coffeeshop feel than that of a bar--but the casual vibe is gloriously free of pretension. If you're a slave to the jukebox, remember to bring some quarters.
Editor's Tips
- On The Menu:
- Ordering dinner becomes an option after 5pm, so come with a hearty appetite. Specialties of the house are the Cuban sandwich and the 5-Points Burger. Save room for dessert: Joe and Jo's big hit is their homemade ice cream.

Sadly, Jo has moved and sold the bar. Work is being done and rumor has it the place will re-open as an Irish pub.
Eclectic Music with a side of fun

Everytime I go to Jo and Joes I have the best time and hear some of the best music in the area. Highly recommended even with all the traffic disruptions from the construction on downtown Durhams streets. Get your keister down there!
WHAT A PLACE

I just love this place! It's homey and exciting. The people there are open and so funny at times! Some can be snobs but it's always fun when people mess with them. HA HA just kidding. Joanne is great and She needs to find a bigger place. I have worked with Jo and she is such a sweet person. I love the Fries and their Ranch Dressing. The cuban is to die for!!!! YOU ROCK SISTER!!!!
- Pros: Great people, Food
- Cons: Parking
We left before the food arrived

After the rave reviews we were disappointed. It was poorly lit, cold, and not welcoming. Perhaps if you wanted to sit at the bar, fine, but this is not the place to go for a lunch out downtown.
Great little bar...

For a bar, the food at J&J's is very very good. I recommend the fries!
