awesome pupusas. Tried this place for the first time tonite. Not exactly fancy digs, and it was crazy hot in there tonite (to be fair, it's over 100 today, but it was like there was no a/c in there). We tried some Central American beers and the pupusas. The pupusas were fabulous. Much larger than I've seen/had them, but they were light, fluffy, cheesy and served with the requisite curtido. Will definitely be back!

Try this place. First time trying this place after looking for a Mexican restaurant that is more authentic than Bandidos. The food was excellent (Al Pastor tacos and Chicken Taco salad), the service is great, the prices are reasonable and the atmosphere is quaint. One reviewer mentioned that the wait staff does not speak much English. Although I found this to be the case, they definitely speak enough to get what you need and I found it added to the authenticity of it all. Will definitely go back again.

One of the best mexican food in the area. Its among the best Mexican restaurants I have been in the Durham- Chapel Hill area. Most of them are good. But this one has a variety of dishes that's not available in other places. Their plantain fritters are very tasty and good mix of vegetarian entres.

GOOD, authentic food. The food here is plentiful and varied. I liked the fact that there were options beyond the typical Mexican (haha, well, Mexican-American) offerings. So many veggies and meats to choose from. Even the salsa tastes fresh. As previous reviewers have mentioned, the waitresses don't speak much English, but the owner does if there's any confusion. A great little find!

Great food!. We've been craving some good Mexican or at least Latin American food since me moved here a few months ago so El Cuscaleco was a great find. The pupusa's and fried plantains here are fabulous. This place specializes in El Salvadorian food so it?s best to try out that portion of their menu. The waitresses mostly speak Spanish so you may have to point out what you want on the menu?it?s no biggie though. Try it out, it?s well worth it!

Best Latin American Restaurant in the Triangle. Hands down.. My girlfriend and I are addicted to El Cuscatleco. This unassuming spot in Durham is the best kept secret of Latin flavor (mainly Salvadoran and Mexican with a bit of Caribbean) in the Triangle. Portions are generous, and your wallet is going to love the prices. Yet, the best of all: the flavor. Fresh and authentic. From the pupusas, to the fried plantains, to the seafood burrito (even the beans and rice!), your taste buds will dream of this restaurant well after you leave. The interior is modest and the music is sometimes tacky but the quality and price enormously outweigh these two disadvantages. This restaurant makes Mexican restaurants int he area look like fast food burrito joints.

Great little restaurant. My friend happened to find this restaurant which is at the southeast corner of Garrett Road and 15-501. It appears to be an Authentic restaurant so I was excited to check it out. The menu offers a variety of Latin American foods but both my friend and I stuck with the Salvadorian meals because it should be the specialty. The food was simple yet very tasty. The one problem was that the waitress wasn't able to explain one of the specialty drinks and didn't know some of the foods that were in a platter. I still would like to go back.

Best Mexican I've had in the area. Finally after living here 2 years, I've found a good Mexican restaurant. They use very fresh ingredients and have several great vegetarian choices. The pupusas and guacamole were excellent. The salad that came with the meal was different but apparently authentic Salvadorean fare. Don't go to some chain Mexican place in the area - try out El Cuscatlebo!

Some of the best and most authentic Latin food in the Triangle can be found at this colorful restaurant.. In Short
The Latin decorations and colorful artwork cover the walls. When mariachi musicians aren't strolling the tables, Latin music keeps the place hopping. The platanos fritos (fried plantains) are good--the fried banana-like slices are sweet and moist with delicately crisped edges. A wonderful Salvadorean entree is the combinacion guanaca: sunnyside eggs, carne asada and homestyle Salvadorean cheese (white, salty and dry), complemented by creamy mild guacamole and plenty of vegetables.

Not El Dorado!. Fantastic! Spanish spoken here. They have some seafood dishes that will knock your socks off with some authentic heat and latin flavors. Excellent value too! Don't be intimidated by the exterior, you will feel welcome inside.
