Good place for lunch; reasonable prces, good cajun-type food
by BarrySlaughter
I have never eaten dinner here, only lunch. There are numerous lunch entrees I like, all of the cajun/gulf coast variety--soft shelled crab or oyster po-boys, jambalaya, fried green tomatoes, etc. Good beers on tap, featuring Abita Turbo-Dog and Abita Amber. The main dining room is NOISY due to the old-fashioned tiles on the ceiling, probably, and the fact the place is always filled to near-capacity. If you have a chance and want a quieter meal, dine in the bar area.
- Pros: Decent gulf coast food, inexpensive lunch menu
- Cons: noisy dining room (try the bar)
Great choice for downtown restaurants

This is a great place to go for slightly more than casual food. The prices can be a bit high for the food you get but most of the time it's excellent. Their fried green tomatoes are wonderful. Good wine selection, and on Tuesdays you get 1/2 off a bottle of wine. Lots of fish entrees. Great pasta.
The only issue I have ever had is sometimes the waitstaff can be less than reliable--sometimes forgetting to bring salads before the meal, forgetting to drop off bread. Also, I ordered a risotto dish once and it wasn't made with arborio rice--it was made with regular rice and wasn't worth the high price.
- Pros: Great selection of food
- Cons: Sometimes overpriced, sometimes unreliable waitstaff
Good food, great customer service

We were spending a night in Hillsborough, and went in to town close to 10pm, hungry and looking for dinner. Even though it was close to closing time, the service staff were very friendly and enthusiastic, and helpful and attentive even though they had cleared up for the night and we were the last ones there. The food was good, and excellent value for money. My friend was raving about the salmon all evening. All in all a very pleasant experience.
