Lose the receptionist – After encountering their staff multiple times around town, I had nothing but good things to say & recommended to my own customers. Then the receptionist went out of his way to openly insult me. His caustic nature has made me afraid to ever set foot in Funky Monkey.
A++ Angela – Angela Goldman at the Funky Monkey is a fantastic and versatile stylist. She can give you the trendiest cut in town, or make the most low-maintenance gal look like a million bucks. She really understands texture, so if you have any curls or waves or funky cowlicks she knows how to make it look stylish without working against your hair. I've found that her cuts start out great and get even better as they grow out. I've recommended nearly everyone I know to her and all of them are now dedicated clients. Oh, and she's great at color and men's cuts, too! Whether you know exactly what you want or need someone else to decide, she has the skills to do it.
receptionist ruined it! – I agree with the other commenter...the haircut was decent, even very good, but the whole experience was ruined by that front desk guy. I won't be back and it's a shame since it's hard to find a good stylist. Surprised management would put up with such attitude plus generally aggressive behavior.
AWESOME HAIR! FRONT DESK A SCARE! – Beautiful salon. My hair, amazing. The front desk, a major turn off. I've never had any receptionist make me so uncomfortable. I called the salon to change my appointment because of a conflict.... that's life! I had never had any receptionist be so hostile and rude. This guy has a serious attitude problem. If i didn't love my stylist and the work that she does I would NEVER go back. I will give this place one more chance. Has anyone else had a bad experience with this guy that makes appointment's??
A place that's all about you – I have been to Funky Monkey for the first time today and I will definitely go there again. My haircut turned out wonderful and is exactly what I imagined it to be like. My stylist, Heather, was very caring and I could tell that this appointment was all about me and my needs. She helped me pick out a better shampoo for my hair as well and gave me some tips on how to care for it. What is awesome about Heather is that she is a junior stylist so if you are a little short on money, you can still get an awesome cut from a talented stylist and you don't have to wait months for an appointment. All in all, everyone is very nice and makes you feel comfortable right away!
Best Haircut in the Triangle – I will say, for everyone that has just moved here, that I have found that hair salon prices in this area rival those of the major cities. A $35 haircut is hard to find, and you'll eventually find, not a good haircut. After I finally swallowed that, I have tried many places in my first two years and was not impressed with their sense of hair fashion. A friend of mine recommended Funky Monkey, and I have had my best hair experiance ever. Paul will really invest the time to talk to you about what you want, why he chose to do certain things, etc. I got everything I wanted, and I have gotten so many compliments on my cut and color. Save yourself the two years I spent searching, and start here. Also, I went to Paul, but I have heard great things about all of the stylists there. The only negative is that you have to book far in advance. Oh, and bring cash or check!
Running with scissors and i love it! – Funky Monkey, once Redz, is amazing. I have read the below reviews and agree with most of them. I was shocked to read the one below this one as i have never experienced that at Funky Monkey. Paul is my stylist and my last cut was exactly what i wanted. I honestly don't think i have ever felt like what i wanted was ever completely done right but with Paul I explained in my laymans terms and he did exactly that with his own suggestions as well. The music can be loud and random as to what you may hear but you can't please them all. I use to go when it was Redz and while I loved it then, Funky Monkey is not trying to be what Redz was but it's own in every way, have you seen the new bridge and land scape! I would recommend Funky Monkey to any one, but make sure you call they always seem alittle busy!
Funky Monkey is under different management from Redz. – The folks who operate Funky Monkey seriously need lessons in etiquette. This is not like it was when it was Redz. These people lack professionalism. In fact, they don't have a clue. They don't show up for their appointments. They are extremely rude. Go elsewhere. This is a rough place.
BEST in NC! – I have tried NUMEROUS top-rated hair salons, never really receiving a haircut I adored. A good friend of mine recommended Funky Monkey and specifically, Paul Miller, who owns the place and is also one of the stylists. She told me that once I went to Paul, I'd never want to go anywhere else again. SHE WAS RIGHT! The customer service was both outstanding and personable - and Paul was amazing. Initially we discussed my style - I told him what I was looking for and he was honest about what would look right given my facial structure and hair type. He then proceeded to cut and style my hair for well over an hour. He took his time and was very detail oriented. I LOVE that in my stylist! I would highly recommend this place for anyone looking for uncomparable service and skill! By far the best hair salon in NC!
Great cut but customer service is weak – I have gone to Redz for about 3 years and always have been satisfied with the service. Andrea, my stylist and the former owner, was great. After she left, I decided to go to Paul but I have been given the run around. He gave me a great cut the first time. For my second appt., he had to reschedule due to his need to go on vacation. I still decided to see him for my second cut and he still did a nice job but after a couple days, I realized that he really did not cut enough off. For $55, I figured I would call and ask if there was a chance he could take a little more off. I left a message with the receptionist, told her the scoop and asked her to ask Paul to call me but I never heard back from him. I figured he may not have gotten the message. I still planned to go to my 3rd appt. since my hair was extra long by that time, unmanageable and know how difficult it is to get in with a good stylist. Then I received a call the day of my 3rd appt. telling me that Paul had to cancel for a family emergency but he would call me back and reschedule as soon as he could. I never heard back . Why is it so hard to make a phone call and touch base with a customer? I realize his situation but I never heard back from him even after several weeks. I just wanted to let people know that Paul may be a great stylist but he doens't know great customer service. I will never go back. I am a mother of two young children and don't have time for this run-around. Apparently, he does not need the business. I cannot speak for the other stylists.
