Great... if you are into insanely greasy NY style pizza. I just moved here a few weeks ago and have been on a quest for great pizza. Living halfway between Duke and UNC, there are plenty of choices, and plenty of great pizza, most of which I have liked. Amantes, Brixx, Alfredo's, Italian Pizzeria III, and yes, even Papa John's, to name but a few.

I've read a lot of good reviews about Randy's, so I thought I'd give it a try.

First off, prices are reasonable, and their slices are insanely large.. cut wide from an 18"(?) pizza. 2 slices are about the equivalent of a small pizza. The 2 slices were served across 3 paper plates; they are that big.

The plates were completely soaked with grease. The pizza had so much grease on top of it that after 5-6 napkins being completely soaked, I gave up, lifted the slices and poured (not drip, it was a steady flow) as much grease as I could off of it. There's a heart attack in liquid form before you even get to the actual pizza.

The pizza itself had pretty good flavor. The pepperoni was excellent and actually had a bit of the bite/spice that it should have... missing from pepperoni at most places. As is typical of NY style pizza (and one of the reasons I'm not a fan of it), the dough was slightly undercooked, the sauce was barely present and had little flavor, and the whole thing resembled a thin floppy cheese flavored grease napkin... a completely accurate NY style pizza, from the dozen or so I've had in NY.

Would I eat here again? Yes, though I'd probably bring a roll of paper towels and steamroll the pizza with the entire roll to soak up the grease.

Would it be one of my top 5 picks? Nope.

Longtime local fave, this pizza place is an institution for New York-style pizza and fun-food lovers.. In Short
Perfect for a casual dinner and a movie night in, or a treat after a long day at work. Sink into your couch and take a breather with a different kind of comfort food--pizza and more. The pizza is the star and all those irresistible sides include Buffalo wings, curly fries, onion rings and garlic rolls. Toppings and pie portions will ensure leftovrs. Top off your fun food marathon with a cannoli or other delight.
