If it's your first time here, you'll get the spiel as soon as you walk in: You build your own entree. Foodies can find entertainment where a clutch of chefs saute nonstop behind a low wall. Spacious, stylish and simple, the restaurant courts romantic duos and large groups. All seem delighted by the novelty of do-it-yourself dining. Pay for one plate, then pile it as high as you can at the buffet line.

I recently ate at Bali Hai on 9th Street. I ordered take out. I signed my sales slip struck thru the tip and wrote down the balance. Later when I checked my bank statement, I noticed the amount was more. I went back to the Restaurant and requested my receipt (She doesnt give you one when you check out). Before I could get in the door good the owner stated that "you have been overcharged" that is why you are back. She knew that she had ripped me off. Her excuse was "your bank did that". I contacted my bank and they stated the Restaurant inputs all amounts. So she lied. Buyer Beware: This restaurant is adding more to your credit and debit cards. They are ripping customers off. She told me I would see a credit in a few days but I am going to turn this Restaurant into the Attorney General Office.

Oh. My God. This place was terrible! I went, despite the terrible reviews on here, with my family because it was someone's birthday, and they wanted to try it, and we thought it couldn't be that bad. First off, the wait-staff is/ was horrible. The waitress was completely unpleasant, obviously unhappy to have to work, and really quite rude. She answered our questions, but acted as if it wasn't her job. Two of our guests were vegan, and wanted to know the ingredients in the noodles. When we asked if they were rice noodles or egg, she said "I don't know." We had to ask her to please check the ingredients, and she said "are you serious?" From there, it just got worse. Their kids menu (she said) was only for 5 and under, and I honestly didn't even see evidence of a kids menu. We asked if they had one, and she said "how old is she?" and we said 7. She said "she will have to order from the regular menu." We asked if there was a fee for sharing/splitting meals/ sharing plates, because we wanted to just get a variety of different stir fry's (spicy, vegan, regular, etc) and all dig in, and to share with the child, who is very small for her age, and the waitress said - NO sharing. Also, they don't offer appetizers or to go boxes, and are really odd about refilling your drink and will just ignore you if you ask for refills. This wasn't on a busy night even, it was a Wednesday at 6:30, there were a few other people but not many. While the meal was good, it is only just stir fry, (three adults and one small 7 year old- payed $40 just for stir fry and waters, which seemed a little high) and I felt pretty grossed out by the fact that the waitress would wipe her sweat off her face or forehead and then pick up people's food and carry it to them. The restroom was terrible, there were not any paper towels or evidence there had ever been any (not even an empty roll in the dispenser) and the floor was filthy. If you go, don't say I didn't warn you.

I ate at Bali Hai and was unfortunately very disappointed. While the food was OK, the service was terrible and the restaurant policies are quite ridiculous. We were unable to share a meal and on top of that were unable to take any of our leftovers home. When I asked the waitress for a to go box her response was "we can't do that". When I went to pay the check, I saw that there were styrofoam boxes behind the counter. I asked for a to go box again, and the answer was no. So not only was I unable to take home my leftovers that were paid for; the excess food was just wasted (and had we been able to share it probably wouldn't have been a problem). I suggested that if they wanted return customers that they should reconsider changing their policy. The waitress responded "well, it's not my fault". All in all, I'll never be back.
