Great selection, snobby bartenders. I've been to Tyler's several times and while I love the selection and the atmosphere, the bartenders usually seem pretty snobby. It's nothing overtly snobby - they just act like they have more important things to do than serve you. It's a beer bar, not an upscale wine bar!

Decent place for beer and pool with friends. The speakeasy (back room) is a decent place to hang out, shoot some pool or play some Foos Ball. Sometimes it gets quite loud and crowded, especially right after a Bulls game. Lots of beer on tap. Beer selection spans the gamut from PBR/Miller Lite/etc to $20/bottle imports.

Food is ok though overpriced. Tables are ok, house cues are pretty rough. Nice big TV for watching game in the corner.

A decent place to hangout, but bring your own entertainment (i.e. group of friends).

Avoid if you think that an establishment should respect their customers. I went to Tyler's for a basketball game during the NCAA tournament. Just before the game started we were informed that the back room had been rented out for a private party and that we would have to leave at a time that would occur before the end of the game.

I was a bit upset since no real efforts were made to accommodate us. We were told that we could move to the front of the house bar. We were understanding though since I am sure that the restaurant makes good money from a catered event. Without a fuss, with the promise that the TV would be tuned to the game when we changed our seats, we moved(we had arrived early to the back so that we could have seats).

When we arrived at the front bar the game was not on. I POLITELY asked a bartender to change the channel, with expressed urgency since it was midgame and in the last 10 minutes of a close game. He rebuffed me and said, "I will get to it when I can." Granted he was busy but the time that it would take him to fulfill my request was minimal and the urgency of changing the channel for an important game AT A BAR THAT INVITES PEOPLE TO WATCH SPORTS should be respected. He barely looked at me and dismissed my request as if I had asked him to do jumping jacks or a flip! What else could I do but wait for him to change the channel?

While I was complaining about the bartender to my friends a couple sitting beside us echoed our sentiments and relayed their encounter with the gentleman(I use the term loosely) and the ill treatment that they also received.

After the game was finished I asked to speak to the manager and relayed the details of the story to him. He was unapologetic and extremely rude. I had already paid my bill and had my jacket in hand so I was clearly not bucking for anything free. Now I know how that bartender can have such an attitude; it was the culture of service there.

I encourage you to spend your money at a place that values their customers and treats them with respect.

Great beer selection. The food is okay, but the garlic fries are great! The best part about this place is the great selection of beers from all over the place. And the bartenders know their stuff, so don't hesitate to ask them for a recommendation.

Sit at the bar -try the wings & nachos. I've had several entree items that I wouldn't order again. BUT, several times I've sat at the bar on the main dining room side and had very good wings. Get them plain with hot sauce on the side. The other night we got the nachos and it was HUGE plate, loaded with meat and cheeses. The bartenders on the main dining room side have always been polite and knowledgable esp. Leigh and the girl that works Fri. nites. Also had the Philly Chicken s'wich which was good.

Terrrible Food and Service. Prepare to wait a while for your food. When you get your food, don't expect it to be hot or tasty. Definitely don't get the burger. It tastes like mush and in fact so does the fries. If you must go, I'd recommend spending your money on beer instead.

Tyler's - Durham's great new place!. I have eaten at Tyler's twice in the past couple of weeks, and I have to say it is now my favorite all around restaurant in the Triangle. The menu is unique and plentiful. There are lots of interesting appetizers. So far I have loved the "fried dill chips with ranch sauce" and the triple dip platter. For the main meal I guess I am not qualified to comment on the menu since I had the "triple cheese burger" on both visits. It is so good. I know its just a cheeseburger, but it is "to die for".

Sitting outside at Tylers is a great option. The outside are provide a great setting and a lot of activity. This whole scene is something that Durham has that Raleigh and Chapel Hill do not. I highly recommend Tylers! (Oh, the beer is great too!)

terrible service. There is one waiter who is at best, surly. He is actually intimidating and rude. One evening my friend returned her fish meal because it tasted like "mud"(see first review!) and aforementioned watier did not take it off the bill. When asked to remove the meal from the bill the waiter took off half even though she had not eaten the meal. On one occasion I have actually had to negotiate with the waiter so that he would serve us, even though the hostess had allowed us to sit in his section. In the bar the beer selection is fabulous, but the service is slooow. The food I have eaten has been mediocre. Ultimately, however, the bar is a great place to drink because the space is large and inviting. Skip the food and do not be in any kind of hurry.

Go for the beer, forget the food. Tyler's is a welcome addition to Durham and the American Tobacco complex. It's a great afterwork bar and their beer selection is incredible. That said, I have one major complaint: the food is terrible and way overpriced for what you get. I recently had to send back an order of fish-n-chips because the fish smelled and tasted awful. Fries are usually under-cooked or cooked to death and the chips that come with the nachos and queso dip are usually stale. Pub food is such simple fare, but they seem to be struggling with these basic items. Until they work out the kinks in their kitchen, we'll be eating elsewhere before going to Tyler's to enjoy their huge draft beer selection.
