36.005421 -78.914369awesome tour. I'm not a huge modern art fan, but I still enjoyed my trip to the Nasher. The building itself is a masterpiece, & the exhibits change frequently. Free tours are offered with admission on certain days, & I would definitely recommend that. My friends & I were the only ones who bothered to take the tour when we were there, but the guide was most attentive & didn't blow off the tour since it was such a small group. She was an undergrad studio art student at Duke, so quite knowledgable. She really turned the tour into an interactive experience... it was obvious to me that they train their tour guides well. Haven't tried the restaurant there, but I've heard it's quite good from others who have been.
Great addition to Durham and the Duke campus. I've been to the Nasher once, and look forward to returning! The art collection is interesting and definitely worth a look.
Classic art in a contemporary setting makes this Durham museum one of the top attractions in the Triangle..
In Short
Clean lines, open spaces and great halls filled with color are the makings of a top-notch art museum, and Duke University's Nasher Museum fits the bill perfectly. There are more than 13,000 works of art here, many of which fall into the areas of Renaissance art, African art, ancient American art and Classical sculpture. Since the museum also boasts a gourmet restaurant, this is the perfect place to take a date on a weekend afternoon.
