Student Focused Quality Instruction. I love this studio. My daughter has been taking dance since she was three and Legacy has become a wonderful place for her to continue to develop her ballet skills in a healthy, ability-appropriate atmosphere. In addition to a great many ballet offerings, there is tap, modern, jazz, hip hop, Flamenco and Irish dance, drama and voice. An aerial dance class is quite popular and unique in the Triangle. There are also a number of boys who take classes which is nice for my son.

The teachers are wonderful and focused on teaching the students with respectful discipline and humor. I appreciate that there are all body types and abilities there too--especially important for teen girls interested in ballet. The expectations are high but not unreasonable or pressured. The focus is on the students and the studio and any ego (and drama) is checked at the door. There are also extras such as a monthly free chair massage for students and families, workshops on physical therapy and camps.

It is in a funky location but easy to access. The exterior is nothing special and has a loading dock is just outside. But inside there is plenty of charm with the old brick walls of its former life as a tobacco warehouse. There are two big studios, one with a skylight, and two lobbies with comfy couches and wi fi so I can work while I hang out for class. There are plenty of bathrooms too for changing space. There is also a soundproofed room used for voice and drama classes. In the lobbies, there is a preference for living room lighting with tables and floor lamps instead of switching on the overhead florescents. Some folks don't like that because at night, it keeps the lobbies a bit darker and more homey feel but can be a bit dim.

The end of year productions are amazing! Far beyond a cutesy recital one might expect from students.

If you want a variety of class offerings, quality instruction, well run, student-focused studio, check out Legacy Studios.

Dance with discipline, respect, and lots of heart.. I really love this studio. For myself and for all my kids.

This dance studio has a terrific range of classes, My two kids take advantage of the reasonable prices to badger me into letting them take a lot, so I'm rather familiar with the staff and classes. The dance and voice instructors are serious about dance, technique, and respect in the classroom. They see art as discipline and expect respect for self, student, and teachers. They are very careful about not pushing a dancer beyond what is physically safe for the individual. Teachers do expect the students to come prepared to learn and insist on getting the personal best from the students. They work with the student. I've witnessed countless times where the teachers have counseled kids who where upset because their body wasn't looking or doing what the kid expected it to and were upset because the student felt inadequate.

The studio is next to a few tech businesses. It's an unusual place for a dance studio although it is across the street from Durham School of the Arts. If I were to give it four stars the lobby would be the reason. The studios are nice, tho, so I'm going to leave it at five. The lobby is small, but it has a community feel to it. (Hi Norm! Did you bring your pointe shoes?) The kids help each other with homework and any signs of "diva-itis" are quickly squelched.

The end of year program is amazing. The studio has a large number of costumes and this keeps the cost to parents very low. Costumes at some studios run over 100 to 200 dollars in addition to the unavoidable theatre fees. Legacy keeps these cost to a minimum and costumes are very cheap to free.

The best dance studio around.. If you are looking for a great dance studio, this is the place to be.

Both of my daughters had been dancing since the age of three and were totally burned out at the dance studio they had been attending. One of the instructors at Legacy Studios, who was a family friend, suggested we check out this studio. The phone call to Legacy was the best thing I ever did. Thanks to the staff of Legacy, both of my daughters developed a renewed interest in dance. One of my daughters is now a dance major in college. Great instructors, fantastic facility, wonderful atmosphere.

Legacy Studios is a step above the rest. Students are actually learning dance and not just going through the motions.
