intimate hide away.
myself and two friends ate at (metro 8) Sat.17,2008. It was good. I ordered 28oz. Ribeye Steak. it was seasoned perfectly, but too large. My friends ordered Filet of Beef, it was great. My other friend purchased
Filet Au Poive w/ peppercorns, it was ok . Wheat Rolls were served w/ spicy butter..GREAT>, I was dissapointed in the Chocolate Sufflay..tasted like a molten Lava Cake, Iwould go back,..A bit Pricey
our bill was 152.00 for 3 people
Unbeatable Churrasco. I've been coming to Durham on Business for over 6 months and once I found this place I never missed a week. Great staff and atmosphere. I highly recommend the Provoletta for an ap and the Churrasco and lamb for entrees. Their house Malbec goes great with any dish as well. I wish there was a place like this closer to me!
Best Argentinian Steak in NC. Maybe you can get better Churrasco in Buenos Aires. But around here if you want a great steak then look no further. This place has an amazing atmosphere, friendly staff and above all great meat. The empanadas are as good as any I've tasted, (and I've tasted many) but i definitely recommend the Churrasco. It isn't typically the tenderest of cuts but when well handled and cooked it comes out as juicy as any ribeye and with more flavour. And to finish off try the Dulce de Leche Crepes. It's not a large portion but I'd recommend splitting it. And I almost forgot the Filet Mignon with creamy peppercorn sauce. The meat was very tender with great flavour but (although not exactly a traditional Argentinian sauce) the peppercorn sauce was strong and spicy but not overly, with a strong Buerre Maniere flavour calming the power of the peppercorns. This is a great restaurant for all occasions with many secluded tables for a romantic setting but also very family friendly. I'd also recommend the Luis Bosca Malbec '04. It is a great bottle of wine for only $32 that goes well with any steak.
One of Durham's Great Secrets. This place lives up to everything you hope a great steakhouse to be, and Durham is lucky to have them here! Wait staff is friendly and knowledgeable, the owners (the chef and his wife) take the time to greet guests and get to know you. The skirt steak is perfect-- cooked just right and flavorful with authentic tasting 'chimmy churry'. The wine is exceptional, the deserts are amazing! Esp the cheese cake! The atmosphere is romantic and a great date place, or a cozy dinner with friends. Best of all the prices aren't too high for the quality of the experience. We go back again and again for every special occasion. :)
Wonderful Service, Great Food. I have dined here twice and each time I was so pleased I can't wait to take someone else to share the grate food and exceptional service. The skirt steak is tender and flavorful along with the spinach Alfredo. NY strip was tender and perfectly cooked. The service is exceptional, remembered how I liked my steak and what dessert I liked. The Chocolate Souffle is small but delicious. I would recommend to anyone looking for a small elegant and tasteful dining experience.
Great experience in downtown Durham.
After all the good reviews I decided to give this place a try. They do no advertising so all business is by word of mouth. The location on 9th street in Durham is great and very accessible with a good amount of parking nearby. We went on a Friday and were able to make reservations that day for dinner that night. The restaurant itself is beautiful and romantic and the staff was amazing. Not only was our waitress very good, but all the staff made a point to add something to our experience.
We had Caesar salads, filet mignon for her and New York Strip for me, baked potato, spinach alfredo, and a slice of cheesecake. These were two of the best steaks we had ever had (comparing them to Sullivan's and Ruth's Chris -- although the prices were MUCH better) and the potato fell apart in your mouth, not to mention how great the salad and cheesecake were. The complimentary bread came with a jalapeno, cilantro, cream cheese spread that was outstanding as well.
All in all, this was a great find! If you've been looking for that hidden gem in downtown Durham, this is it!
BETTER THAN EXCEPTIONAL FROM COCKTAILS THROUGH DESSERT.
I CAME TO DURHAM FROM NAPA, CALIFORNIA ON WINE BUSINESS . NOT HAVING EVER BEEN TO DURHAM BEFORE I CAME ACCROSS METRO 8 ON THE WEB WHILE LOOKING FOR A PLACE TO HAVE DINNER. WHAT A FORTUNATE FIND.
FROM THE MARTINI TO THE CEASER SALAD TO ARGENTINA STYLE STEAK TO THE CHOCOLATE SOUFFLE FOR DESSERT, 5 STARS ALL THE WAY ON EVERYTHING. PLUS THE WINE LIST WAS EXCELLANT
I KNOW FROM NOW ON WHENEVER I COME BACK TO DURHAM I WILL DEFINITELY BE HAVING DINNER AT METRO 8.
The real deal.
We heard about Metro 8 when it opened earlier this year but never had a chance to visit. This week we finally made there for my birthday, 5 of us in total. I was hoping for a respectable steakhouse with decent prices and our wishes came true. Elsewhere in the Triangle you are subject to either high-priced, stuffy restaurants or everyday joints a-la Outback Steakhouse. I think Metro 8 has the right formula - reasonable pricing and great food and service.
All five of us had starters and various steaks, plus two excellent bottles of Napa Cabernet. The total bill came out to $213. Need I say more?
PS check out the Empanadas - they're great !!!
Love it !!!! Love it!!!!!!. Wow what fun. Food was GREAT. Service was relaxed not prententious. I loved the mojitos, the provoleta and the filet au poivre. I really enjoyed the Merry Edwards pinot noir. Thanks Metro 8 for such a great night.
Best Kept Secret in Durham. WONDERFUL. I had no idea that this place was so wonderful. Great Service!! Great food. My husband and I just loved it. Ihad the pork chop with the sweet potatoe fries and he had the peppercorn filet with a gigantic loaded baked potatoe. It's a Steak house with South American infuences. The empanades were fantastic. Everything was fresh and tasty. I had wine from Argetina and he had a beer from Argentina. I can't wait to tell all my friends about this place. Next time I am going to try the ribeye or maybe the lobster ravioli. I just can't wait.
