Best Desserts I have ever Had

by SweetD1985 at Citysearch

I have always been a dessert hound, and I finally found a place that is as good as my Mom in turning out desserts to satisfy my sweet tooth cravings ( even she said so after I brought the parental units there). My favorite is the chocolate Mousse Cake, but I haven't had a bad dessert there yet. The cheese cake is super, eclairs are delicious, their cannoli are the best I've ever had ( they are filled with a chocolate riggotta with Amerana cherrie pieces & tiny chocolate chips - amazing taste. )

They have a huge case of hand crafted gelato made there at the store. Don't miss the Donatella, a mix of chocolate and hazelnut paste ! I like bringing dates there, because we can get sweets and alcohol at the same time. They make killer frozen cocktails with the gelato, so you can have a drink where it is quiet and classy, and they have a wide variety of the fruit beers that most girls like.

  • Pros: Great Desserts, Nice Place To Bring a Date
  • Cons: Haven't Found Any Yet
5 Star Rating: Highly Recommended

Wonderful Discovery in Chapel Hill

by dnnlorinda at Citysearch

My friend who is a UNC graduate just introduced me to this place when I visited her this week. Sugarland is a unique dessert cafe, that features a full bakery, a gelatoria, in a meticulously restored 100 year old building.

We shared several of the desserts, including a slice of a sinfully rich, but not overly sweet toffee mousse cake, covered with salty macadamia nuts and English toffee pieces with the name of Lumpy Bumpy Cake. My friend had the key lime tart, which also was to die for. We brought bake an assortment of cupcakes for the guys who had stayed at home watching football while we wandered Franklin St, and they wolfed them down, with special raves for the pumpkin chocolate chip ones, a moist pumpkin laced spice cake, filled with tiny, tiny chocolate chips, and covered with the best cream cheese icing I have ever had.

It was so good that we went back the next day, and Donnie and I had the Gelato, and it was as good as anything I had had in my two trips to Italy when I was in school. The blood orange gelato is amazing, so complex and intense a taste in a creamy orange gelato.

We are just over in Raleigh, and I can tell you that we will be back again the next time we are in the neigborhood.

  • Pros: Outstanding Bakery & Gelatoria
  • Cons: None
