New Location is Great!. I've been to Steel Blue's new location several times since they opened in downtown Durham in November. I've had a great time each time I go. I'm really glad to see the owner picked up and moved and created a such a beautiful place downtown!

The atmosphere is amazing and reminds me of some really upscale clubs in place like Las Vegas or NY. They have done an amazing job with transforming the space from what it used to be years ago...there's a big, open dance floor surrounded by a variety of lights as well as a more secluded lounge with couches. Every time I've gone there's been a variety of people, both in groups and singles.

Cover charges have dropped to only $5 for members (still free before 10), and $7 for guests. My mixed drinks are always strong and the staff was pretty attentive.

Based on their events calendar, it seems there is a variety of events happening almost every Friday night and there's a different DJ every Saturday night.

I can't wait to see what happens to the huge outdoor space when it gets warmer...apparently there are plans to extend the deck and build more outdoor seating.

Great job Steel Blue...thanks for giving us a quality place to go in Durham!

somtimes a mess. I like this bar a lot, the music is good, the DJ takes request and actually plays them. That's a first in all of my club experience. The only con is the owner making drunken announcements. It seems to be a poorly ran establishment when patrons are told they are no monies for upgrades, like bathroom doors that actually lock, yet, large donations are made to local charities. It would be nice for the owner to stay sober and repair some simple things around the club.

Best Lesbian playground. My first time to this club was at Pride in Sept. Ive been back several times since then. This is a great LGBT spot! More girls than any other club in the triangle. Huge dancefloor! Lots of different beers to choose from. I just wish they had more going on Fri nights.

music was cool. I walked out with several numbers and a great evening so i dont know what to say. But when you go to the club,you only have as much fun as you allow yourself. Now if your stiff, standing, and staring... then thats on you!!

to the people saying the bartenders don't like black people. Its not that they are against you Its that you do not tip! If you do not tip your bartender they will not care to serve you... If they do serve you...your drinks may be served with no alcohol and I do not blame them... ... You won't tip people who do a good job and take care of you... I go to steel blue..and as a person who works in the service industry..I know you are stereotyped for not tipping...but if you at least tipped $1 per drink...you would get treated like royalty! You are just too cheap and are not willing to tip! If you can't afford to tip...STAY HOME! These people do not bartend to just have fun... They do it because they need the money!

prosperous. i am starting to wonder how people can afford the "luxury" of this bar siting the current economy and how entry and membership costs never seem to allow themselves new patrons. even Legends has a sale once a year. Oh, and getting kicked out for body odor. That s a new one. Aces kids also i think the attempted kidney shot to the poster two down by the management speaks volume to its character. well known people in the community are entitled to their opinions. and even i have had a shot made from behind the bar by the owner, with her.

Best LGBT club in the Triangle!. Fact: The clientele at SB are, for the most part, female.

Fact: Steel Blue welcomes everyone in the LGBT community, and continues to reach out to the fellas within that community in hopes more will join us in some fun.

Fact: SB does charge a cover ~ as do all the LGBT clubs in the area ~ but they also allow FREE entry for members before 10pm.

Fact: You'll NEVER get a watered down or overpriced cocktail at SB.

Fact: The owner does NOT drink behind the bar.

We at SB are more than open to your critiques and criticism as we're always looking for ways to better serve our members... However, it's unfortunate that someone who's upset about getting turned down when they applied for a bar-backing position at Steel Blue is now using Citysearch as a forum to trash-talk and lie.

Just another over priced lesbian bar.. What amazing potential this space has, and kudos to the owner for making this place happen. Now use it to your full potential!! I have not ever personally experienced the lack of comfort with acceptance of diversity here before but every time I go I wonder where all the guys are? LGBT? Looks like a lesbian bar to me?I think it might be time to lower your admission price, seeing as this place has survived it's first year, and the fact that I am driving close to twenty minutes to get to a bar that I would like to drink at [and by drink I mean drink, not chug my half shot mixed plastic cupped cocktail.] I would love to go more often and so would many of my friends, but why would we when it is easier to get into a nice bar downtown with no cover charge, heavy poured drinks, and a comfortable diverse crowd all while meeting people who enjoy the same!? Oh, and Diane really shouldn't drink behind the bar whether or not she is working that night...looks really bad for the business. The ALE might think so too.
