won't be going back.. Unfortunately, my first and only experience with the Beehive was negative and costly. I told Tonya that I wanted my hair to be somewhere between my shoulders and my chin (it was long) but said I trusted her with the length. She cut it just below my shoulders, and when I tried to fix it at home I didn't like it (it looked like a shelf across the back). I made another appointment immediately to ask her to take it shorter like I originally wanted, but when I showed up for my appointment she and Meg (the receptionist, who had previously been friendly) were standing at the reception desk just staring at me. No greeting, no smile, nothing from either of them. Tonya finally asked what I needed, and I explained. She said, "So you want a whole new haircut," and then proceeded to do what I asked. Afterward, Meg asked if she should charge me for a full haircut, and Tonya sighed, said, "Well, that's what it was," and then asked me, "What do YOU think you should pay?" I said that I would pay whatever she thought was fair, and after some long, awkward silence from both of them, she finally said I should pay for half of a haircut.

I've never before been charged for someone to go back and "fix" a haircut I wasn't happy with, but I understand if that's The Beehive's policy. What I don't understand is why Tonya didn't say that up front, rather than trying to make me feel as uncomfortable as possible and manipulate me into offering to pay for a whole new haircut. Be professional, please, and don't try to guilt your clients into paying for fixing a less-than-great haircut. Just state what your policy is and allow the client to decide what they want.

Bottom line: this haircut cost me $100. The worst part is that, while Tonya gave me the length I wanted, she also gave me ridiculously short layers which have ensured months of growing out a very awkward haircut. Needless to say, I will not be going back to The Beehive, and hope that they make their policies clearer for clients in the future.

After 3 years of searching... I finally found my salon/stylist!. I moved to Chapel Hill from Los Angeles about 3 years ago. Even after doing exhaustive searching, traveling to Raleigh and the outer limits of the Triangle, I still had ZERO luck with finding a hair salon or stylist that I'm completely happy with. Wouldn't you know it, the place I was looking for was right around the corner. The Beehive is a fabulous salon and Meridith Grey is... just perfect.

The salon is conveniently located in downtown Carrboro, has a cute retro-50's/60's feel and just has a great feel (they will be tripling their salon space in the next few months!). Meridith is a wealth of knowledge, extremely skilled and just an amazing stylist. She took the time to talk with me, offer her own ideas and really understand what she was going to do with my hair before she did it. And did it she has! My hair hasn't looked this great since I lived in California!!

Thanks Meridith! Thanks Beehive! You have a new, dedicated and VERY HAPPY new customer in me!! :)

Best Hair in Chapel Hill/Carrboro. I searched for years (literally) for a great hair stylist and finally found Diane at the Beehive. She spent a lot of time with me, listened to my ideas and told me her ideas. I am a mother of 2 young kids who wanted an easy but edgy style. She gave me a cute medium-length hair cut at first and then we grew it out to a longer shag, which looks sort of rock and roll-ish and is very easy. It also is always fun to go in because everyone who works there is nice and has fun conversations. I highly recommend the Beehive!

I liked my hair...but did not love it. Let me start off by saying that the service was AMAZING!!! The woman who cut my hair (sorry I cannot remember her name) spent a long time with me. She was super nice and chatty and I really liked her. Unfortunately, I did not like my hair, though the damage was not too severe. She did not cut my hair like I wanted, but I also did not come in with a picture, just a verbal description. I also felt like I had too much product in my hair when I left. The salon could do more to create more of a peaceful atmosphere....some nice music would be good. Not the worst experience, not the best either.
