Tips for Sushi-Yoshi Japanese Restrnt

Not authentic anymore, just OK. I think the owner changed hands. They used to have a unique menu that included authentic Japanese dishes like grilled fish. They used to have fantastic sushi and food from the kitchen although service was bad. Now the service is great, but the food is just ok.

I went there for lunch, and the menu was different. You can get standard items like chicken teriyaki and tempura, but nothing beyond that. The server was friendly, the food was good, and the price was reasonable.

There is nothing special about this place anymore, so I personally won't be going back.

Good sushi & Japanese food. I've eaten at Sushi-Yoshi once or twice a year for the past ~5 years. I've had dishes ranging from chicken teriyaki to noodle bowls to sushi. I think it's the best sushi restaurant in the Durham / Chapel Hill area. Service may be a bit slow, but I frequently go with a large group so I'm a bit forgiving.

Terrible service. I live close to sushi-yoshi so I thought I would see if it was as good as some of the japanese restaurants I'd been to in Raleigh. The waitress had no knowledge of the menu, when asked questions she got an attitude and couldn't give a correct answer. She never once asked us if we were enjoying everything or if we needed anything. She didn't even refill our water, another waitress came over for that. The food was okay, definitly not worth the money you pay. I'd prefer a waitress that knows something about the food they serve, and is polite, the way we were being to her. I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone.

Very Satisfactory. I thought that this place was very good. Granted the service was a little slow, but in all fairness there was only one waitress. The service was very friendly and special requests were not a problem. The sushi is portioned well (not tiny pieces of fish on huge portions of rice; very balanced) and quite fresh. There are a good number of creative rolls as well as the traditional rolls. The sushi chef seemed experienced and was very nice. Overall, my experience was very pleasant, and I will most certainly be returning.

Pretty good!. We are new to the area; we used to go to a different sushi restaurant every week back in LA, but there aren't many here:(. Anyway, this is the first Japanese restaurant we have tried in the triangle area. I was pleasantly surprised. Their rolls are not bad! Certainly not even close to the best sushi I had, but it is better than 'some' sushi restaurants in LA. I think people who are complaining about cold rolls don't know that the rolls are not supposed to be served warm?! Many Japanese restaurants nowadays serve warm rolls (because they call them fusion), but sushi is not served warm traditionally. Also, the price was actually pretty good as a Japanese restaurant. The service was quite slow, but it's something to be expected because they only have one sushi chef. It would be bad when they start letting untrained cook make sushi! I have also heard people complaining about sushi chefs not being Japanese. I was like that until I discovered that many best japanese restaurants I've been to in LA were run by Koreans. We would definitely go back. Meanwhile, please keep us updated about good sushi restaurants in the triangle!

avoid the boat for 4. I enjoy this place for special occasions and usually go with one other person but the last time we had 4 in our party. When ordering for 2 one of the boats is a feast but when ordering a boat for 4 it is twice the price for very close to the same amount of food. You'd be better off ordering two different boats more food and more variety.

Pretty good for the area. Went to Sushi Yoshi for the first time because it is close. We have been looking for a great sushi restaurant but have not had the best luck in the south. We got a roll that we did not order, but it was the best roll out of the three that we did get. The spider roll was average, the dragon roll was pretty good. Very affordable for a dinner meal. I recommend ordering something OUT OF the ordinary, and checking your order before your take out.

Bye-bye Sushi Yoshi. Old fish and wrong type of rice seasoned the wrong way makes inedible sushi.

Even Akai-Hana which is of low kaiten-sushi quality, is better than this shop.

This may be THE BEST Japanese restaurant I've been to in a long time!. Sushi-Yoshi is under new management--a family from Korea who run many upscale restaurants over there. The food is FANTASTIC, and yet so affordable. I would encourage anyone who enjoys Japanese food in general and especially sushi in particular to go there and give it a try--you won't regret it.

A welcome oasis of authentic Japanese food in an area better known for its fast food and car dealerships.. In Short
Don't expect a big square table with a grill in the middle and a chef who can juggle pepper shakers. Instead, a sushi bar, tatami mats and paper lanterns have transformed the former "Hello Deli" into one of the area's best places to eat Japanese. Beautifully prepared, very fresh, a la carte sushi, with a menu that boasts a wide variety of sushi, sashimi and rolls, as well as teriyaki, tempura or noodles.
