Customer service, food on the upswing. The Flying Burrito has had it's moments in the past two years, and I'd had many hit or miss experiences. But, recently, I've been going for lunch, and if you live or work in the Chapel Hill area, you really shouldn't miss their $2 taco menu. The vegetables are tasty, tortillas soft, chicken tacos juicy and flavorful. Heaping portions of sides like mashed sweet potatoes, black beans or Yucatan slaw are just $2. At all my recent visits, the manager has been friendly and helpful, visiting our table and saying goodbye when we left. The food is flavorful, plentiful and inexpensive. Definitely don't count The Flying Burrito out.

It's getting worse!. I went there when it first re-opened and the service was atrocious. I decided to give it another chance last night. The service was mechanical but efficient -- until the food never came out. When I asked what was going on, the food instantly came out -- stone cold. No explanations and no apologies. When I decided to get up and walk out without eating, the waitress came back and asked if she could reheat the food, obviously knowing that it had been sitting in the kitchen for at least a half hour. I kept walking. I'll never go back.

I loved the old Flying Burrito. This place doesn't begin to compare!

bad behavior. I called ahead to see if the game would be shown. They said yes, I went with a group, ordered food and drinks proir to game start. Food was bland, drinks watered down. Asked again if the game would be shown, was told yes. Game time arrives and they dont show the game. Spent 50.00 buck and had to go somewhere else to watch the game. Very disappointed in the way they treated us. Will never go back.

Bad Mexican food. We used to love the Flying Burrito before the new ownership. The decor is great but the food is BLAND. We noticed there were alot of young families there, and maybe the lack of seasoning works well for the kids. We won't be back.

highs and lows. While there are absolutely great high points on the menu (many of the tapas plates are top notch and very affordable, especially on Wednesdays, and the drink specials are great) a lot of the food really has no taste. The basic burritos probably have the smothered option because, without it, they are flavorless. My husband just a huge lump of chicken and rice wrapped up, and had to pour salsa on it just to add any type of flavor and moisture to his meal.

Please, stop flyering our neighborhood unless you're going to give us coupons.

Lackluster & horrible marketing. Ate here and the service was okay. My wife and I found the food very bland. Later in the week our entire apt. Complex was littered by their advertisements. It rained the same day and their promotions were glued to everyone's windshield. It took me an hour w. a credit card and windex to scrape off the photographic image off my car

Disappointing mexican. Disappointing mexican food...if you want authentic, go to Fiesta Grill or Los Potrillos. The food simply had little taste , what else can you say?

Not the same but still friendly. I have been going to the Burrito for 20 years. While I don't find the new burrito as good as the old. I do still like their bartenders and the people you meet at the bar. Jim has done a good job making the bar a place you still like to visit (Who doesn't like seeing Prof. Phil). It takes some getting used to, but the new burrito is pretty good. The music could use an upgrade though.

Still a Special Place. Under new ownership and maintaining the restaurant's long history as a special pace for special people. More than half the menu is the same as that of the original owner, who was retained for months to work with cook staff to make sure the flavors were right. Prices remain very reasonable, and every weekend fresh fish specials remind long-time patrons why they continue to come. The legendary margarita machine (in a new incarnation) still is present, to make sure that every drink has precisely the right proportions.But what continues to make this the funkiest place in town is the varied and loyal clientele--mature, interesting people from all walks and occupations. Finally, three high-def screens make this a place to watch all Carolina games. If you have not been back this year, put it on your list.

Top neighborhood bar in Chapel Hill. My wife and I have been going to the Flying Burrito for 11 years. When it closed we were heartbroken but now think it better than ever since reopening. While retaining much of the spirit of the old Burrito in the name, margarita machine, signature dishes and decor, it is much improved in many other ways. The food is as good as ever with greater variety including a range of hamburgers, tapas and daily seafood specials. Pricing is great especially in these challenging times. Three high def TVs make it a great place for watching sports. Walking into the bar is like walking into Cheers with friendly wait staff and a steady crowd of regulars who form an extended Burrito family. Familiies love the informal nature of the dining room and you can see kids of all ages almost any night. The new owner has made a great effort to meet customers and understand their needs. He has been willing to try new things (extended hours, music, special events, menu changes) to open the Burrito to a new and wider breed of customers. Summer at the Burrito will be even better with the newly upgraded veranda.
