What People Are Saying About Hell

In Short – Crimson walls, red pool tables and gory furniture accented with rubber rats and skeletons set the scene. Tetris, Time Pilot and air hockey are the stalagmites in this hole. The bar boasts a damned-fun drink list, including sips called Crime & Punishment and The Devil's Elbow. Unlike the real deal, Chapel Hill's Hell is tough to get into--you don't have to be a murderer--but you must become a member.
Editor's Tips
- Know Before You Go:
- Don't head to Hell for good conversation. With the jukebox blasting the likes of Morrissey and the Beach Boys, you have to bend your ear or read lips.
Slumlords RUINED that place... And it was the BEST dance club in Chapel Hill!
by CHBarFlyGirl at Citysearch
I have heard all the bicthing from the losers that used to go there...get a life..your time expired, you guys ran that place into the ground. the new owners bought it and made it a gay friendly, everyone welcome dance club..which rocked and did amazing things for the community...I have been there with water flooding in thru the walls, sewage leaks from the club upstairs I was there when the slumlord landlord was making excuses for the flooding, which is his problem...clearly if you READ the files on hells website from the city, you can see they, the city, shut it down. I dont buy the rent dispute for a minute, as hell was almost always packed on the weekends and seemed to make plenty of money. I for one will NEVER step foot in that building or any business located within it...its clearly dangerous and the slumlords that own it need to clean up their act. They tried to rip off their tenant and almost got away with it. When hell reopens in the new space, I will be there, with my friends in tow!
- Pros: AIt was the best dance club in town
- Cons: they are now closed bc of the slumlords that own the building
The Chapelhell closting story is a load of dung!!
by Nickisfullofit at Citysearch
Since they do not have anywhere to post on their actual site I will have to post here. Hell is closed!! Not due to the building being condemed, which it is not, the other two business seem to be open still. Rather hell is closing due to a crappy owner who took something that was great in Chapel Hill for over 10 years and messed it up. The owner did not pay his bills including beer distributors and the landlord. Not paying rent causes a landlord to getupset, trying to have the landlord arrested for trespasing while trying to collect such rent gets you evicted. That is the real story. The town of Chapel Hill did not come out of nowhere and inspect the bar, they were called. Called by a cry baby owner who in a last ditch effort was trying to get back at the landlord, when 90% of their list of repairs is responsible to the owner not the landlord. Nice move!! Well at least the owner of Hell can claim a new record in town. THE SHORTEST LIVED RUNNING OF A BAR IN TOWN. (Under six months)
Hell Bar a must go.....
by DanielBerry at Citysearch
Great place. Tons of bottle beer and all the drinks you could think of. Free pool, great Dj's and reasonably priced drink, low cover. Great for any night of the week.
- Pros: Low Cover, Good drinks.
- Cons: I'm not there every night.
Worst bar in the area
by FBCH at Citysearch
I cannot say enough bad things about this place. They seem to try to bill themselves as "part of the community," but it's just part of their marketing. The staff is lazy and doesn't even make an attempt at being polite, and there seems to be a tendency by them to aggressively post advertising on free message boards on the internet, even if those message boards have a clear and obvious no-spam policy. Keep away, you'll be glad that you did.
- Pros: They serve alcohol
- Cons: Rude staff, obnoxious marketing, weak drinks
Rude Bartender
by csburdick at Citysearch
After just moving to the area, I was excited to try out the new bars. We tries Hell after it was recommended y Citysearch, and it turned out a bad experience. The cover was $2, no big deal, but nobody was there, and it was boring. One of the bartenders was very rude and ended up ruining our time.
- Pros: Cool gimmick, good events
- Cons: Rude bartender
