Worst most racially predjudiced restaurant in Chapel Hill. Poor service. Food greasy, cold and horrible. Security won't even allow paying customers to use the bathroom. If you are drunk then the food might be passable. Any place is better than this place for a meal.
Fried Chicken is great!.
Okay, my husband and sons LOVE Time Out! I have to say the fried chicken has been wonderful everytime we visited. I get the meal, but my sons like the chicken and cheddar biscuits. My husband says the bbq is great - spicy, and the mac and cheese is yummy!
The service has always been great, but we make sure we either go when UNC is on break or on off hours. We do not eat in the restaurant because it really is not clean. It is covered in years of greese and college students. Get the food to go and find a great park to enjoy the food, or take it home.
Love it. I went to camp this summer and stayed at Granville Towers. So my options were limited since we couldn't leave university square. The cafeteria sucks and Im not a chinese food kinda guy. Once I got there I knew it would be messy but hey whats good BBQ and Carolina chicken and biscuits without a little mess.. So if you don't mind a little mess its perfect for a North Carolina food lover. And if you don't like the food and the mess deal with it I think its great.
Nastiest food in Chapel Hill, NC. This place has the most nastiest food and rudest employees I have ever experienced. The food is digusting and expensive. The floors and tables were not clean at all. And I figured I would go to the Time Out on Fordham Blvd. The food is worser than the one on Franklin St. and That red headed manager rude . I guess you do have to be drunk to eat there.
Better go somewhere else. You must be really drunk to enjoy that place. I can hardly understand why people would go there instead of B-Ski's or Pita Pit. Well, if you are a greasy chicken fan and don't look for a nice atmosphere while eating, you might wanna give it a shot.
If you're a UNC student and you like your chicken biscuits at 3am, you've already taken Time-Out..
In Short
If it weren't for this spartan diner located in Chapel Hill's University Square, where would the college contingent go to eat after a bender? Time-Out may be empty during daylight hours, but after 2am, it virtually swells with folks looking to sate the late-night munchies. Deep-fried and butter-coated is Time-Out's timeless formula for success as well as plump pieces of breaded, fried chicken reasts and oversized cheese biscuits.
Nothing says munchies like Time-Out. This is the Chapel Hill tradition for late night eats on Franklin St. Located in University Square, this 24 hours "chicken and bbq" restuarant has it all. Biscuits, veggies, burgers, you name it they pretty much have it. How about a box of bones and sweet tea? Yep they have it. You need to get one, just to say you got one. But you can't go wrong with the chicken chedder biscuit. A boneless chicken breast covered with shredded chedder cheese on a "four corner" biscuit - wow! You can't go wrong with the veggies either....they are known for the mac-n-cheese! Southern food all day! Be fore-warned though that it can be busy after 2am with the occassional fight or arrest. There is normally a Chapel Hill PD on duty here late night, but don't let that scare you. Check it out - its a tradition.
2AM Wonder. Favorites like the chicken-egg-n-cheese and the box of bones match perfectly with a large ice tea. I've heard the sides are pretty darn good as well. The BEST late night food after a grueling night on Franklin St. I've only been going for the last 10 years, but it's greatness persists as lore as much as it does in cuisine.
A Tarheel Tradition!!. A 2-word phrase comes to mind when I think of my freshmen year at UNC-- "Time Out". Located just 50 yards from my dorm at Granville Towers, many a night were spent at Time Out with friends and the often randomized crowd that encompasses the place after, oh, say 2 AM. Now a senior, I can truly say that I had some hilarious moments there at all hours of the day, both intoxicated and not. My suggestion: Chicken biscuit, okra, and a bacon egg and cheese biscuit should do you just fine
