Tips for Tyler's Taproom

Waiter, there is a hair in my calamari. This review is for the Tyler's in Durham, not sure this is the same location, but still Tyler's tap room. We went there for dinner. After waiting 20 minutes for our waitress to even get to our table, we waited another 10 minutes for drinks and to order. Another 20 miutes elapsed and we were finally got our meals. Unfortunately, my wife's calamari had a big hair all curled up in it. After having to hunt down the waitress, she came by and took the salad. No appology, nothing, just took it and left. Well, at this point, our appetites were gone from the wait and from the hairy salad. Manager finally came out and said they took the salad off our bill. Why gees, thanks for not charging us for the hairy salad. Service is terrible. Hair in the food is over the top.

Nice Place, Not Hospitable. I was celebrating my birthday and invited a few friends to come to Tyler's for a quick bite or drink before we ventured to another larger party. BAD IDEA. I heard more about their Friday night policies than I cared to. The food was good, the server was great, but the folks that run the place should re-examine their career choice. If you are not going to be hospitable, then don't get into the hospitality business. Will never go back.

Gave it a shot, not going back again.. We didn't eat there so there's no complaint about the food. The layout was decent, the beer selection was decent, the service was not a problem until it became one. We just watched a football game at the bar on a lazy sunday afternoon. The bar staff, all girls, asked us to keep the "noise down" repeatedly until they suggested we might be happier in their "back bar", which we didn't even know existed. We noticed they did the same to other patrons as well simply for clapping at the game, which was basically all we were doing too. There was One (1) family in the dining room and maybe 8 people in the place in total. I can understand wanting to maintain an image standard in their dining area but we felt that was a little excessive. After that we felt awkward and just weirded out by that. Shortly afterward we decided to move someplace a little less restrictive but when we did go I disputed a couple of beer orders which I was sure I had already paid for. Not arguing, just questioning. The bartender simply said OK and removed them from the bill, the other bartender, presumably the manager, took back the adjusted tab from me and replaced it with the original stating "I was the sober one I knew what you had". Can you get any ruder than that? It was only a difference of $11! And if they really wanted to keep customers coming back she should have just adjusted it. Instead I got a smart*** remark. She didn't even bother to check the receipts to see if I was wrong. Mistakes happen and I very well may have been the one at fault but to make such a fuss over $11 made us feel unwelcome and unwanted. It is because of her I will never return and will advise others to do the same.

Like pubs of old: great brews, tasty munchies and good conversation.. In Short
You'll get a warm feeling when you stroll through the door of Tyler Huntington's Carrboro establishment. The light varnished wood of the floor, furniture and handsome bar evokes a remarkable feeling of comfort. Lunch consists of mostly sandwiches and salads, while dinner shifts to a heavier fare. If you're up for late-night munchies, the kitchen offers spruced-up bar food, including peerless homemade potato chips.

Great selection of beer AND food.. Pretty good beer selection - and some great deals on pint nights. The food is above average for a bar - I hesistate to even call it pub grub. There is a great selection in addition to the standard options of burgers, etc. The cajun catfish and french dip are some faves. Unusual for a pub is their great dessert list - the peanut butter mousse is awesome! Overall, it's a great place for after work, or to hang out with friends. The adjoining speakeasy with pool tables and a bar makes this a great place to spend a night!

Speakeasy is awesome!. I go to Speakeasy almost every time I go to DSI Comedy Theater. It is an awesome bar. Sometimes you can even find the comedians there!

Great grub, better beer. I have frequented Tyler's on many occasions and was extremely pleased my most recent visit. I ordered the Old West Burger and garlic fries everything was exceptional! To drink I had a Corsendonk Christmas Ale. The beer selection is great and each beer comes in it's own glass!! To eat, I sat at the bar (there was a wait) and the bartenders were extremely friendly, prompt and courteous. What struck me most was how well everyone at the bar knew each other. This IS a neighborhood bar. I had a great time and'll recommend Tyler's to my colleagues. If you haven't been - go. If you have small children - this seems the place to be. There were a lot of families with small children in the dining room. I might have to rethink my trips to McDonald's with the kids and instead steer the minivan towards Carrboro (or Durham)!

Never order Thai Rice. I've heard good reviews about this place from others and decided to try for the first time the other night. Clueless about our selections, we asked for recommendations from the staff. I ordered Thai rice and my husband ordered fish & chips as the waitress recommended. Thai rice was probably the most tasteless dishes I've ever had in my life that I couldn't finish the dish after a few spoons. I have an Asian background and I should've been wise enough to not order an Asian dish at a comfort food place. The fish was fried too long making the fish too dry and blackened. The garlic fries were good though.

Total Disappointment. Took the inlaws here for a casual dinner. Their food was good- 4 bean chili, blackened catfish, and pear salad. We all LOVED the garlic fries. Our entrees were terrible- meaty lasagne tasted like Stouffers and the portobello mushroom stuffed with champagne feta risotta was way too vinegary and looked like it had been sitting under the heat lamp for a while... Would reccomend for good pub food, but past that I think I would rather go elsewhere.

Well worth the drive from Raleigh!. Ive been going to Tylers Taproom & Restaurant (& The Speakeasy) since shortly after they opened. Whether its for lunch, a couple of beers, a night on the town, a date, or for one of Tylers special events, I always leave satisfied. Tylers has a tremendous selection of beer and wine, home-cooked tasting food, wonderful service, and a warm, cozy atmosphere. While their fries are out-of-this-world, youve got to try their mashed potatoes. They are fantastic! If youve never eaten fried pickles, give Tylers a try. Youll be glad you did. Tylers also does BBQ right! Their pulled-pork and smoked ribs are both top notch! If youre wondering about the right choice of wine to go with your meal, Ive found that Tylers friendly and knowledgeable staff is more than willing to give you a hand. I have one question, when is Tyler going to open a place in Raleigh?!?!
