Worst experience ever!. I was so excited when I first saw Mama Dip on the food net work channel. I immediately called my brother who lives in Chapel Hill and asked him if he had ever been to the restaurant. He said no but that his girlfriend had. I talked with her and lost all the excitement when she started telling me all of the negative stories about Ms. Council. But I believe in finding out for myself. My sisters and I have a monthly meeting and a while back I encouraged everyone to go to Mama Dips. Oh was I in for a rude awakening. Upon entering the restaurant we were lead to our seats and I saw Mama Dip sitting at a table with some of her customers. When I entered the room, I took out my cell phone to use the camera to take a picture of our group going into the room to be seated and I said oh there is Mama Dip. She did not even acknowlege our presence but in a forceful voice said to me that she hated to see people using cell phones and that she had other customers in the restauarant. I never put the phone to my ear nor did she ear me say anything on the phone, I only wanted to take of picture of the monumental occassion or so I thought. She immediately got up and left the dinning area without even greeting her customers. I was so embarassed when my group looked at me and said why did you bring us here. I apologized and could not believe what I had just witnessed. One of the wait staff looked at us as if to apologize for the rude behavior of this woman. The food was not tasty at all. I couldn't believe that we actually stayed to eat. I had my 87 year old mother with me and didn't want her to have to walk some where else. Everything my brother's girlfriend said about her was true. I had to find out the hard way. Shame on her for treating her customers with such disrespect. I will never go again or refer anyone.

chicken and dumplings, pork barbecue. I visited Mama Dips on 080308. This was my first time and the food was delicious. The service was promt by the waiter and waitress. The food was hot and tasty when brought to the tables. We were a party of about 20 and there were no complaints. We did have to wait for some appetizers but they were hot and fresh when received. Because of the size of our group we called ahead and they were ready to serve us when we arrived. I recommend Mama Dips and will go again when I'm in the area.

Love Mama Dips!. I had wanted to visit Mama Dips for years and was so happy to go there. The food was wonderful as was the atmosphere. I loved meeting Mama Dip. This is the real thing, from a real southerner!

NEVER EAT OR WORK THERE. I personally have never worked there, however I know five people who hates working there. I thought SLAVERY was over. Her employees never get raises or breaks. She needs to be reviewed be the Labor Law. They are treated poorly and not trained properly on customer service.

Best Country or Soul Food. If you like those little resturants that remind you of place you used to go after church to eat, say Grand ma's house, then Mama Dips is the place. Greens, Fried chicken, old fashioned macaroni & cheese, cobbler, pound cake, black eyed peas, great hospitality. Mama Dips was worth the trip from Ohio! Keep up the good work Mama Dip! Plus, Mama Dip herself was dining in the regular dining room like we were. What a great touch!

BAD EVERYTHING. Don't go to Mama Dips until she lowers her prices and teaches her staff to be friendly and can do their jobs.

Never again in this lifetime!. The staff was lazy, inconsiderate, hostile and thoughtless. Mama Dip was unbelievable, defensive and appauling. Never, ever, ever consider eating here. The food is horrible, service is worst and the owner has an attitude out of this world. I wish I had been warned about this place, therefore Im warning others. Danger -- proceed with caution!!!

Rude service, marginal food- SKIP IT. This was my first and last visit. I only wish I'd read these reviews before going. Service staff was extremely rude and it starts at the top! Mildred has NO concept of customer service, though she did take time out her busy schedule to come SCREAM at my table for asking for our food (for which we waited an hour and were STILL waiting while she screamed at us). The food is marginal at best the staff is rude and unpleasant....what a shame!

Pretty good for country food, but priced for tourists. We've been twice for dinner recently and thought Mama Dip's was pretty good, although overpriced. The Brunswick Stew is good and the barbequed pork is OK, although the 'que is a little mushy and overly dressed with a sweetish red sauce. Macaroni and cheese was good, fried okra was from frozen, fries were undercooked and tasteless, baked apples were great, and the stewed tomato casserole was excellent (although dessert-level sweet). The service has been very good both times, one of which involved a group of six when the dining room was full. The iced tea (unsweetened) was exceptional. The room is cheery and very clean. $11.95 for stew and 'que is high compared to Bullock's, but the restaurant is nicer and so are the servers. $2.95 for a tiny dish of pickles or hushpuppies is kind of silly. Parking is easy if their lot isn't full and there was no wait either evening we went. We will go again, even though the "tourist tariff" makes everything 25% more expensive than it would be in a real country place.

Mama Dips Is Not What I Expected. Having heard about Mama Dips for years, I finally made it to Chapel Hill yesterday. The chicken and dumplings were decent but the macaroni and cheese was flavorless and cheeseless. The collard greens were canned and needed seasoning. The sweet tea tasted old. I was very disappointed. The staff was exceptionally rude. I won't be making a great attempt to go again. I was certainly disappointed.
