Touchwood Antiques100 Main St, Chapel Hill, NC | Directions 27516
35.923683 -79.100572coolest place in Carrboro. This place should be a chain! The owner is warm, gracious, informed, friendly, engaged. Did I mention friendly? Had us laughing the whole time. Looks like something out of the most eclectic decorator's magazine, and the prices for the quality are way reasonable. And, if she does not have it, she'll either find it or tell you where to go.Took some friends from NYC there and they almost died. I think they are only open on weekends now, but worth the wait!
These antiques look like they were plucked from a well-appointed Southern home circa 1850..
The Scene
A sliver of a store, Touchwood's antique furniture and accessories spill out onto its front walkway. The look is country to formal period American antiques. Tags tell the story of each piece and include appraisal values, which are always higher than the sale price. Wood tables, a large armoire, porcelain figurines, a quirky hatbox, embroidered pillows, lamps and a rack full of non-vintage ribbons are among the items filling the small shop. Pieces that aren't American are from Eastern Europe (and they look right at home with the gracious Southern appointments).
