Beautiful jewelry, horrible customer service.
Their customer service is so terrible that I wish I could give them zero stars instead of just 1. My significant other and I went into Grimball's last week to purchase a promise ring. We have my grandmother's diamond but the setting we had seen at Grimball's that we both fell in love with was $3,800. So we decided to buy a promise ring now, save up while we plan the wedding and buy my 'real' ring right before the wedding. We explained all of this as soon as we entered the store, as well as our $500-600 budget. We also explained that I wanted something simple with a gemstone. The saleslady was extremely rude and condescending the entire time. She consistently showed us things over twice our price range, claiming that they were only "slightly" above. She made what should have been a joyous experience into a horrible one. I found a loose yellow sapphire I liked and they said they could order a pre-made mounting from a catalog. When they left us on our own to sift through the catalog, we decided to leave. We decided that we didn't want to buy the ring there because it would just remind us of the negative way we were treated. I shouldn't have to be treated like a 2nd class citizen because I want a less expensive piece of jewelry. After we left, I sent an e-mail to the owner explaining the situation. I received no reply.
I'm sure Grimball's can afford to lose a $500 sale. But you'd think they'd at least care a little bit about losing a $4,000 sale.
Beautiful jewelery but unable to cope with anything other than selling.
My diamond wedding band lost a diamond. We had purchased it in FL, but we heard good things about Grimball so we went there to get the estimate for repair. They provided an estimate and faxed it to our insurance. About 2 weeks later, they came back to us and told us the ring could not simply be fixed due to the way the ring had been made. They told us really the only option was to have the ring recast around the diamonds. This was going to cost around $900. We decided we didn't want to put this much money into recreating the ring and asked them for other options. They didn't have much to offer and my husband finally suggested returning the yellow gold anniversary band he had bought me there less than a year ago and getting a white gold one. They decided to do this by sending the ring back to the manufacturer to set those diamonds into a white gold setting which would be a cost close to what insurance had paid based on their original estimate. After they finally got the ring back, which took almost 2 months, they sent it to another customer "as they had ordered a virtually identical ring". I'm now without my wedding band (but I have the remaining diamonds from it), without my anniversary band that my husband bought me last year, and I don't have a new wedding band.
Throughout all of this, we've had to repeatedly call to get updates about where things stand. We call and get promises of phone calls back in 10 minutes that are never returned, we get excuses about why we weren't kept up to date about the status of our ring, and we get inferred criticism about the quality of my original wedding ring.
I work in the customer service business and I can tell you this is not how to run a business. I might not have been so upset about any of this if they had just kept us informed instead of seemingly hiding things from us at every turn.
Grimball Jeweler has beautiful jewelery, but their service leaves a lot to be desired. We will be finding a new jeweler.
Cheap Craftsmanship.
I bought my wedding band here. I wore it very carefully for only two weeks and then the jewels fell out. They promised to replace it right away. A month later it still hadn't come in... finally they called that it had come in and I dropped everything and ran over there to find out that they ordered the wrong setting, but hoped I would take this ring anyway. I waited another week to hear from them if they had re-ordered or not... nothing. I called to check and was told maybe a couple of more weeks. It never came in. I finally asked for my money back. And finally got it back. I have been married for over two mos now and have only worn a band for the first two weeks. I am still searching for a band like I had and wanted.
