35.912442 -78.892421I just moved to Durham from Houston two weeks ago and got an itch for sushi, so I decided to venture out and hope for the best. The first place I got to was one of those $50 for a 5-course meal type places, which was a no-go with 2 kids with me. The second place we stopped by was Azashi Sushi, which was packed to the gills with a 30 minute wait time. The fourth place was closed on Sundays. We were about ready to throw in the towel when we decided to try one more time and roll the dice with the GPS. I am so glad we did. This place is great. It doesn't look like much from the outside, but the inside is very sleek and well-decorated. The service was impeccable and the kids and I all enjoyed our food immensely. Plus, who can beat half-price sushi? We will definitely be back.
Pleasantly Surprised.
I regularly go to Asahi Sushi around the corner, and have seen Sansui before, but was hesitant to go given my relationship with the Sushi chefs and staff at Asahi.
I ended up going to Sansui, after going to Asahi, and finding no room to sit at the sushi bar. I headed over to Sansui, to give it a try. To my surprise, I found the sushi to be amazing. Fresh, and delicious. I've only been there 2 times so far, but this will be a frequent stop during my lunch breaks.
Best Sushi in town..
I can't say enough good things about this place. The food is amazing. The staff is friendly and attentive. I would recommend this place to anyone who likes sushi, as well as anyone who has never tried it. I think a lot of folks have decided that sushi isn't for them because they had bad sushi. I have not had anything from this place I didn't absolutely love.
Top picks: Mimi roll, Miami roll, and STR.
Close seconds: everything else.
SANSUI RULES!!!.
Tommy knows sushi! There sushi rolls are half off. yes I said half off. Even in a rescision you can afford to eat good.
You must try there Jacksonville Roll. Tommy lights the place up when he pulls out the flames!
Sansui filets there own fish daily so that every bite taste like it has been caught from the sea and not stored in a freezer.
I can't wait to go back.
BEST SUSHI SPOT.
This sushi tastes amazing, I am still shocked at how great our food was! This is definitely my new favorite hot spot!!! You HAVE to try their sushi bar!!! Finally a place that knows how to do sushi!!
:)
Great Sushi and Ambience.
We've been to Sansui several times now and have been pleased with each visit. Located near the 54/55 intersection, nothing about Sansui's drab exterior accurately reflects its renovated interior or your prospective dining experience.
Following the SW Durham trend, Sansui offers rolls for 50% off. We've had many, as well as some of Sansui's nigiri sushi, and have been very satisfied. Additionally, we've tried Sansui's bento boxes, appetizers, soup, tempura, teriyaki and grilled mackerel. We haven't had a bad meal yet.
The staff are friendly, attentive and explain the menu carefully. One of my husband's wait service criteria is whether or not the server keeps his beverage glass filled. Sansui staff pass with flying colors.
Unlike Shiki Sushi, a well-known, nearby competitor, you can actually enjoy conversing with your dining companion(s) at Sansui and parking is a breeze. I recommend Sansui without hesitation.
