In Short – The aroma of freshly baked bread wafts in from the back room, making for a comforting meal. While Ninth Street Bakery is primarily known for its wholesale breads, the retail location is an excellent place to pick up fresh pastries, bread or a quick lunch. Pizza dough is organic and made with fresh sauce and extra virgin olive oil, and simple sandwiches are made with their signature breads
Marriage Proposal
by TeddyW
If it were not against North Carolina state law, I would marry Ninth Street Bakery whole wheat bread. As a graduate student who has to move around a lot, I eat a lot of peanut butter sandwiches: the perfect combination of flavor, texture, and moisture content can't be beat.
- Pros: at Wellspring
- Cons: not national
The Details on Ninth Street Bakery
Know Before You Go:
You don't have to make a trip to the retail location to try one of their breads. You can buy Ninth Street Bakery breads at Whole Foods, Weaver Street and selected Harris Teeters, Krogers and Lowes.
Parking:
Take Main Street just past the Five Points intersection in downtown Durham. You'll see the Bull City Business Center parking lot, and the bakery is tucked into the corner, with several dedicated parking spaces for customers.
Save Money:
The display of day-old bread is often up to three or four days old, but can be bought for a substantial discount. Eat or refrigerate quickly, as they use no preservatives, and the loaves don't last long in room temperature.
Where To Sit:
A couple of tables are thrown into the front of this wholesale bakery, almost as an afterthought--this bakery is more for take out.
