We Love Bamboo House!

We have been having lunch and dinner at the Bamboo House for many years. They have been a very friendly and enjoyable place to eat, Linda and her staff have treated our family and friends well and they serve a lot of food for the money. They are a family owned and operated business, not a chain; which means they are a local neighbor, not a satellite of a huge corporation in another state. Try the lemon chicken or beef and broccoli, they both are great.

Twice dissappointed

First time we ate in; long wait, very mediocre food. Based on positive reviews (although old), we thought we'd give it a second chance; no change. The food was ready for pickup, when I arrived, but from crab rangoon, to lo-mein, to Gen. Tso's chicken to hunan shrimp and beef, the food was bland, overly sweetened and the two "spicy" dishes were terribly bland, had no spiciness to them at all. Overall, you'd be better off going to the Cookout in the parking lot...just don't waste you money or appetite on this place...the real sign was that at 7:00 on aFriday, not a soul was in there.

Makes the tummy happy.

You know when you go out to a restaurant, and you're pretty happy with what you get, until you see somebody else's food that looks SO much better? I was perfectly content with my Cantonese Chicken until I saw my friend's order of Cashew Chicken come out. The cashew chicken had nothing in it but cashews and chicken in a yummy, nutty, brown sauce. No annoying "filler" celery or anything... she was nice enough to give me a bite, and it was heaven. My other friend got the Chicken Lo Mein, which was also heavenly. Also heavenly were the Crab Rangoons.

Chinese restaurants are a dime a dozen, but it's obvious that this is not your average Chinese restaurant. Most places I've been to have identical menus, down to the identical pictures of "their" food, but this place does it their own way. Their food is obviously fresh and prepared on-the-spot. There are 5 or 6 Chinese restaurants closer to my house than Bamboo House, but I would go out of my way to eat there.

Oh, yeah, and the staff was very friendly too. SCORE!

Best chinese in Durham, good portions, fast service, and very resonable prices! recommended to all!

Quality and freshness of food very consistant, never had a bad meal!

Where do I start? Main issue was delay. It took over 20 minutes to get just soup! It was over an hour before we got our actual entrees. Nobody warned us of such a time issue. Never were we asked how the food was or if we needed anything else. When we brought this up with management, they offered us a mere discount on our next visit... why should there be a next? No remorse was shown whatsoever. I would only recommend this place to people who enjoy 2 hour lunches, herrendous service, and leaving on a half empty stomach.
