A favorite comfort food destination.. In Short
Just about everything at Wimpy's is homemade: fresh home-ground beef for the burgers, homegrown beans for the chili and beef vegetable soup. There's fresh baked banana pudding daily as well as cherry, apple or peach cobbler, and some kind of cake. For breakfast, their biscuits are big and "you don't have to hunt for the meat." They aim to please at Wimpy's--you can design your own hamburger, hot dog, biscuit. Call in your order with an approximate time of arrival and they'll have it ready for you.

Best burger in Durham. Whimpy's makes a great burger. They grind their own meat every morning and hand-form the patties. If you laugh at heart disease, try the chuckwagon, a deep fried hamburger patty that is delicious. Support your local burger joint, because they make 'em the best.

Hands Down Best Burger. With a phone call, I place my order and by the time I drive the mile between my house and hamburger heaven, it is waiting for me. I have never been there that the owner and his wife aren't the ones taking my order and compiling it--hard working people usually create the best comfort food! With options like slaw and chili each burger is unique to whatever your specific tastes may require. The fries are often soggy and the onion rings are cut too thick for my taste, but "Mrs. Wimpy" makes the best banana pudding and chocolate cake around. I hear the soup is pretty good in the chilly months. Call ahead to place your order or try not to go around the prime lunch times (11:30 - 1:30) becauae the line can be long.

Wimpy is a hamburger stud. Are you kidding? You quite obviously did not sample a Wimpy's burger when making your list of the Triangle's top 10 burgers. Being from Atlanta and having travelled extensively, I know a thing or two about the subject, and I quite simply have never placed anything else in my mouth that is as heavenly as a Wimpy's hamgburger. With just about any 'fixin' you could want, it's heaven on a bun. Definitely better than Char-Grill, according to my opinion and that of ALL of my Raleigh-native fraternity brothers!

HOW IT SHOULD BE!. No place to sit and eat unless you want to sit in your car but the food is great! The burgers are tasty and quickly prepared. Best onion rings! Get there early or the dessert will be gone. BBQ, hot dog with the works, shrimp burger - it's all great. Prices are very reasonable. Only open during the week and closes at 2:30 pm. It may not be health conscious but who cares. Don't miss it.
