So Much Fun. I am an instructor for and student of ninth street dance and am so happy I found this studio. The atmosphere and energy of the studio is great and there are so many different types of classes you can take. I have taken dance classes at several different studios around the triangle and Ninth Street stuck out to me the most for many reasons. The studio has a funky and relaxed, community feel to it, which truly fits in to the ninth street/ downtown durham collective of restaurants/services. The class size is appropriate to the type of dance class you're taking, the popularity of the class, and the time in which the class is held. The rates for taking class are really amazing compared to most studios, and if you've missed a class you can do a make-up in any dance class you want (as long as its within the session you're registered for, ie no making up a class you missed a year ago!) All of the instructors I've taken with have been very knowledgable about what they teach and very attentive to the needs of all levels of students. Regarding the one negative review of Ninth Street dance, no, the studio is not filthy and the staff isn't rude. There's obviously a reason why the studio has so many students and successfully offers so many classes, everyone loves it!

***To set the record straight for anyone who read that one rant, around the time that rant review was posted, there was a young woman (college age) who wanted to take my class as a make-up from a session that had already past. Mind you, all instructors announce during class that if you need to make-up a class, you must do it before the session ends and the new session begins. Also, there are signs posted all over the studio about the missed class/make-up class policy. When this woman finally came back to the studio after her session ended to make up the many classes she'd missed months ago, she was absolutely furious!***

Terrific. I don't know what the previous poster is talking about. The teachers are great here and the classes are fun.

Terrible studio- NEVER go there. The owner of the studio is incredibly rude. I will never ever go back there. Additionally, the studio is filthy and disgusting and the classes are overcrowded. THIS PLACE IS AWFUL.

Worth the effort. If you're looking for a fun class to take that's a little out-of-the-ordinary, I highly recommend registering for a dance class at Ninth Street. I recently took an adult tap dance class--and it was literally one of the highlights of my week. Sessions are informal (no regulations on what you have to wear, etc), prices are reasonable and they don't expect you to work toward a ridiculous dance recital at the end of the ten weeks. One thing to keep in mind: the studio gets hot in the summer, despite some window A/C units. Consider registering for a fall class instead.
