Great Avian Supply & Vet Place.....
Dr. Burkett really knows what's best for birds. Years ago, he recommended a flight cage for my canaries. I cleaned it to remove zinc, spray-painted it, and suspended it from the ceiling. The birds
really need to fly, and guess what? If they fly, they sing.
Dr. Burkett also has great information on how to switch from your birds' pitching their seeds to a pellet diet, as well as drinking water from bottles (smaller bottles than what you'd put in your hamster's cage).
When my daughter was young, I'd bring her into Birdie Boutique to learn how to handle parrots, just like she was taught how to be around dogs and cats, so she'd not be fearful of them. That said, I'd not recommend that small children handle the birds. In any case, you want one of the staff to teach your child the best way to handle the birds.…
Great Bird Doc!. Dr. Burkett's avian vet office is like a child's pediatrician office. It is brightly painted with jungle/bird murials. He has a super clean play area for waiting birds complete with treats, and a large selection of toys, foods, and cage hardware in the retail shop. He takes great care of our male and female eclectus'. He is easliy accessable at all hours by email or phone. We live on the Outer Banks and it is a long drive for checkups but his expertise is well worth the journey…
It's a store that would make Tweetie jealous..
In Short
If you're serious about exotic birds--or even if you're just considering one as a pet--this is the closest you'll get before having to travel to the jungle to coax the Toucan into
your suitcase. No wonder people from across the country flock to the boutique, housed in a charming, two-story house, to watch red-bellied parrots coo at the customers. Owned by an avian vet and staffed by educated bird-lovers, the store features hand-raised baby birds.…
