My office moved to the RTP area about 6 months ago. We order from here quite often and we have consistently been impressed with the quality of the food and the service. I've ordered over the phone and online. Ordering online works best, but the customer service is beyond compare. We placed a large order for 6 people all on different cards. They had no problem processing each order seperately. There were two mistakes. About half the orders should have had steamed rice but they all came with fried rice and they forgot one of the egg rolls. I called and they brought us TWO egg rolls!! I'm very impressed!!!
Ordered Mangolian beef with fried rice and a cup of Hot and Sour soup. Soup was ok, although I found a piece of shrimp that didn't belong there. Mangolian beef was massacred. This is officially the worst I have ever had, and I've been to at least 20-30 different Chinese restaurants. Beef was undercooked, and there was not enough of it. 3/4 of the dish consisted of greens that were not properly cooked either. Fried rice was very watery and it was actually closed to steamed rice than to fried rice by both taste and look. Although it was a take-out, I quickly checked out the place while I was there. The place was dirty and very outdated, you could see it straight away. The cheapest possible furniture and interior. I realize this is a quick food place, but you have to have some sense of pride and desire to look good. This is a restaurant, for crying out loud, not a barn. This place truly belongs to Kitchen Nightmares. I wish they get on the show. This is the only Chinese place around my work that I know of.
My family loves going to China Express!
Every new person we bring for the Jan Pong (Korean spicy soup) always ends up going back for more!
You can get this soup with no spice at all. You can get this soup a little spicy all the way up to so spicy I don't think I have met anyone who can eat it.
Give them a try. I have never tried anything else, but others in my group have. Their regular Chinese food is more traditional and made from scratch rather than out of jars. It will taste a little different than you are used to, but everyone seemed to like it.
Kitchen Nightmare. Going to this place reminded me of Chef Ramsey's experience on Kitchen Nightmares. They served me food that tasted disgusting to the palate. Not only were the spices awful, it was obvious the food was old, especially the chicken. I'm sorry but this place was a waste of time and money. When I called the next day the owner argued with me asking me why I didn't talk to him the day before. When I told him I felt sick and that is why I'm calling today, he said go see a doctor. Great customer service!
Great noodles and stir fry. Jan Pong is a delicious noodle soup. Served Chinese or Korean style. Lots of interesting seafood you don't typically see over here.
Best handmade noodles. Jan Pong (with red or white soup) is fantastic - delicious handmade noodles and tons of seafood/meat - easily a quart of soup! I recommend eating it in the restaurant - while they package the noodles/soup separately to go, it's just not the same. Their combinations are very reasonably priced with lots of choices. Their hot & sour soup is also one of my favorites. Even their sweet tea is good and they are very attentive to refills.
Seen its better days but still the best hand made noodles!. When we first moved to the triangle I was 5 months pregnant and ordered take out Cha Chang Myun every week for a month or two. They beat the Korean restaurants hands down. The owner is Korean and the wife is Chinese - they make the noodles fresh and it makes a world of difference. But my friends who like the less authentic American Chinese find their selections to be of poor quality and flavor. So you have to be choosy. Come here for the authentic and forget the other stuff. I think I'll stick to take out. Maybe a couple of years ago this restaurant looked nice but now it's VERY dusty and almost dirty. The condiment jars need replacing, the silverware is tinny, the bathrooms are scary and everything just seems to have a layer of dust on it. Now, I've eaten at worse places overseas, but here in America I am spoiled and want it to be clean! No matter what though, if you want authentic Cha Chang Myun - get it here and nowhere else. Just close your eyes or order take out. Happy Eating!
5 Times Awesome. If you were to ever speak the most perfect food order it would sound something like this, "San Shan Jang Pong, Korean style, 5 times spicy". This is easily one of my top 5 favorite foods of all time. It is roughly 3lbs of seafood and vegetable soup/stew. The homemade noodles are the best part. This is the true reason Marco Polo went to china and has since been celebrated as a national hero. The vast array of animals included in this soup is staggering and includes the following: chicken, beef, shrimp, squid, scallops and sea cucumber. Toss in some broccoli, cabbage, carrots, garlic and green onions to round out the vegetable quota. And finally the broth, you have the option of ordering - in order of increasing spiciness - mild, medium or hot for the amateurs or levels 1-10 for people whose opinion matters. All of this comes together creating soup perfection. A heads up, level 10 will melt your face off and ruin your colon. I have never been to a wing spot that can even stand in the same room a level 10 Jang Pong. I have level 10 when I want to make a good impression on a date or attend social gathering later that evening. The item authentic items are located on the Chinese portion on the back of the menu. I work with a large group of Chinese people and all concur that the ?real? Chinese food is legit. The American Chinese food is mediocre at best. If you would like to better yourself as a human and become the person that others aspire to be, you?ll need to eat San Shan Jang Pong.
Great place, I wish there was a place like this where my family lives!. Was in the area on business and stopped by for one of those what to do night dinner, do the usual hotel restaurant that is over priced and many times not so good. Decided to venture out. Asked the hotel staff for recommendations and this place were first on the list. Well located, right in the heart of RTP. Reminded me of the family type restaurants that my family goes to all the time in CA, friendly, very accommodating and outstanding value, and most important great food. What?s interesting about this place is the food is very traditional type, not like many other Chinese restaurants where it?s become the fast food type, fried rice was great, the dishes were individually cooked with correct sauces, not the one type of sauce for all dishes; this is one of the few places that are still the real thing. I wish there was place like this where my family lives in CA. If I'm ever back in town for business or what ever the occasion, this place is on the list for must stop by.
Great Food, the Quickest Service. This is a favorite lunchtime or dinner option, as the food is great, and the service is incredibly fast.
