Tall vehicles, nasty kitchen and a GUN COUNTER???
by hunneejb
Going to the drive-in used to be a pleasant affair.
Not so much at The Starlite. I'd read about the local drive-in's reopening after the fire and checked out their website. Nice website, in fact----very promising. Good concession prices and admission prices and hey, you can even bring the family pets!
Well, all of this is true----except once you get there you find that 90% of the vehicles are gonna block your view if you don't take your 2-story-high farm pickup truck like the rest of them do. Oh, and make sure you park right in front of the Miata, Bubba.
Also, if you have a weak stomach, don't look too closely at the "kitchen" where they cook the food. It's rather nasty upon not-so-close inspection. And don't forget to buy a gun and some ammo with that burger and fries, all without moving from the same spot. Somehow, they were still able to score a 95.0 sanitation score!!! That has scared the bejeezus out of me to ever go to a place with that high a score again!
After reading this and you'd still like to go to The Starlight, I'd suggest that you:
1. Take your own food
2. Go early and park right up front unless you have that kind of vehicle I mentioned and in that case, by all means park anywhere you feel like because at least everyone in YOUR vehicle will be able to enjoy the movie. The heck with courtesy!
Head north to Durham and see how they did things in the '50s. While you're there, pick up some ammo.

In Short
Cars and pick-ups make their way down the gravel drive around dusk. Radio dials turn to 92.9 FM. Folding chairs come out, along with the mosquitos, and folks begin stocking up on snacks at the concession stand, right across from the gun counter.
See a movie in a new way by trying it the old way

I took an old girlfriend here for one of our early dates and she liked the surprise. How often do people nowadays get to go to a drive through? If you want to see a blockbuster go to AMC, but if you want to see a regular movie and laugh at the fact that you can buy popcorn, soda and a gun at the same time this is the place. Try it out and tell your friends.
- Pros: Unique, Cheap tickets, Kissing in the car
- Cons: Bad quality video
A great spot in Durham

It's great to spend time with our 8 year old daughter at the Drive In. We can slip in our pjs and pop our own popcorn and have a great time in the privacy of our own vehicle...or take the whole family--everyone loves to tailgate in the Summer!!

My husband & I love going to the drive-in. They always play the newest releases which is great. The only thing we find "different" is the way they sell "other" products at the consession stand. It makes for a somewhat uncomfortable stay! There is a good selection of food to choose from, but everything almost has the same taste, but it is still edible.
