This restaurant is absolutely oustanding! The service and food were impeccable. If you are looking for a special evening and are willing to spend some money, this is the only place you should look.

Southern Charm

by chef32

My husband and I recently came for a weekend getaway (our first trip to Fearrington), expecting a relaxing, serene experience and got that and so much more. From the moment we arrived, passing the belted cows and seeing the quaint village shops we knew we would want to stay for more than just the 2 nights. We were instantly greeted by the front desk staff who were all informative, friendly, and professional-even escorted us to our rooms with a tour! Our room was decorated exquisitely-had a real english style that made it truly unique. I could tell the rooms were decorated with the finest of detail and had an older look to them yet had all the new amentities such as the heated towel racks/new flat screen TV's & DVD players. We finally ventured out of the room to enjoy afternoon tea which could not have been any better sitting by the crackling fire on the chilly November day we had. I then walked through the shops and was surprised to actually find some great Christmas gifts for my family-I'm sure I could have found many more for myself had my husband not found me! That night we went to the restaurant for our 3 course meal which was truly the best meal I've had in a long time-the setting, service, and food was well worth it and I left that night quite satisfied. Overall, Fearrington was truly a fabulous experience for us, and our only regret is that we didn't stay longer! We will definitely be returning!!

Disappointed - Not up to Relais & Chateaux Expectations

by lp82533

Stayed for my birthday in October 2006 and booked a standard room. The room was fairly small, both the furnishings and furniture had seen much better days, there were stains on the carpet, and the TV was a 10 year old Zenith model which you wouldnt see in budget hotel never mind a luxury inn!! The staff were very nice though one waiter was a little condescending, the afternoon tea and breakfast were both superb, I did not have dinner though felt pressure to do so by a number of staff asking when were our reservations..

I know I only paid $240 for the standard room but I expected much much more from a Relais & Chateaux property.

Overall I was disappointed and would not recommend to stay at the Fearrington Village Inn.

  • Pros: Wonderful setting and great food
  • Cons: Standard Rooms were obviously below standard!!

This peaceful country getaway gives guests a great excuse to flee the city.

In Short
This inn is located in a pleasant little village eight miles south of Chapel Hill. All the rooms are comfortable; the suite offers a fireplace and Jacuzzi tub. Gourmet breakfast begins each day, and afternoons may be spent strolling the beautiful gardens or relaxing on the front porch, watching the cows lazing in the pasture. English afternoon tea is served by the fireplace at the restaurant.

Get Romantic Getaway

by tvmeteorologist

It's pricey, yet you pay for what you get....and you get a lot at Ferrington House. My wife and I celebrated our wedding anniversary there, which was a wonderful memory!

  • Pros: Romantic, Beautiful Setting

Wonderful

Our stay was fantastic. The service was above and beyond anywhere else in the state. Our room had the most beautiful view of the gardens... we will surely be back to visit again soon!

Way Overrated!!

by Katjh80

I am from NYC and have eaten at many great restaurants and I expected the Fearrington Restaurant to live up to my standards and the hype surrounding it. I was very disappointed and really did not like anything I ordered. I had the shrimp frisee salad, the goat cheese salad, and the filet mignon. The goat cheese was delicious, but everything else was mediocre at best. The filet tasted strange and the shrimp was bland. The bread was even hard and stale. The atmosphere was decent, but a little stuffy. I had the chocolate Souffle for dessert and I loved it, but the fondant cake was dry and nothing special. The meal was way overpriced!!! The meal was expensive even by NYC standards and it wasn't even good. Definitely skip this restaurant and go for something better.

been there

Lovely setting, great service, but when service person has to explain what is on your plate, something's wrong. Everything was in stacks, so had to delicately separate to get different tastes. Cost was exorbitant. Only go if someone else is paying the tab.

Not as Good as Four Square

by erinclark2000

My fiance and I went to the Fearrington House to celebrate a birthday a few weeks back. The food was well prepared, but no better than several other places around town (less the presentation which was very nice). The service can only be described as "lots of people, little help". Recommendations were useless and with all those people you'd think we would have gotten more than one water refill and one stop to see how we were doing over the 1 hour period. For 1/2 the price you can get close to the same food quality and better atmosphere and service at Four Square.

  • Pros: Presentation
  • Cons: Bad Service, Very Costly

Quality food but over rated. Better values at many area restaurants. Somewhat pretentious.

  • Pros: atmosphere
  • Cons: over priced
