Great place to shop, people watch or just hang out....

by tracer243 at Citysearch

I was very worried moving from the D.C. area with it's great shopping and awesome resturants to the Raleigh/Durham area which I knew little about. But, I was so happy to find a wonderful mall with good food near by in the Triangle area. I live three miles from the Streets at Southpoint off of Grandale and love it! This area and mall are one of the best places to be... great shopping, good food, convience to the airport, Duke, Chapel hill, now all we need is a good theatre for some broadway shows. I can dream... Seriously this is a great place to shop or just people watch. Parking and getting out of the mall can be a bit crazy at peek times which is a mild complaint. By the way, you have to check out "Tropical Smoothie" at the mall... tell them Tracy sent you---I have a addiction to that place .

  • Pros: Everything.
  • Cons: Getting out of the mall and parking during peak times.

Horrible Cologne Smell Throughout the Mall

by Jayson23 at Citysearch

Southpoint used to be my favorite place to shop but no more. Their Abercrombie and Fitch store has ruined it for me. It was bad enough when their god awful thick cologne could only be smelled near that particular store but lately the thick soupy perfume is permeating all corners of Southpoint. You can literally smell that mess at the doorway before you enter the mall if you're coming in from the "Streets of Southpoint" area. I'm not even allergic to the stuff and it makes my eyes water and I taste it in my throat. GROSS!! My girlfriend is allergic to the perfume and she breaks out in hives if she goes to the mall. It's a shame. Usually Southpoint is a fun shopping experience (if you can avoid being harrassed by the Survey people downstairs near GNC) but not any more. I'm glad the Apple Store is outside. I'll still go there. But anything indoors? No way. I'm avoiding the indoor shops at Southpoint like the plague these days. Hopefully Abercrombie and Fitch will get better ventilation so they're not ruining the mall for people who HATE their nasty cologne.

Clean, safe and friendly - bad food court

by brenkert at Citysearch

Fantastic mall! I have never come across an unfriendly employee at the mall (I can't speak for kiosk employees as I do not shop those). Everyone is helpful. The mall is always clean and free from people who loiter. On Saturday nights there are a lot of teens but security is in full force and I rarely see them loitering for long. Weekday mornings is a mom and tot haven. The play area is mostly clean. My only complaint is that they do not enforce the rules always. Sometimes there are kids as tall as I am playing there and that is very dangerous for little tots. The play area is designated for smaller kids. Great restaurants abound - Firebirds, California Pizza Kitchen, etc. Unfortunately the eateries in the food court is very repetitive. There are 4 places that serve Chinese type buffet food. I highly recommend Five Guys for a great burger and fries. This is by far the best mall in the area.

  • Pros: Many nice restaurants to choose from, clean, safe.
  • Cons: Repetitive food venues in food court, overcrowded kids' play area

Durham's mall-amusement park.

by Contributor at Citysearch

In Short
Part village, part sprawling mega-mall, the Streets at Southpoint dominates Durham's shopping scene with a host of upscale stores. The architecture sets this mall apart from its predecessors: Each shop has a storefront resembling an individual building, giving shoppers the feeling of walking through a quaint little town.

it's everything and the kitchen sink

by lbeattie at Citysearch

Southpoint is one of my favorite places to shop, eat and just plain hang out. The design of the shopping center has both outdoor and indoor shopping. The shops all seem to be well maintained with friendly staff and top quality merchandise. Great resteraunts located in the shopping center, for your dining pleasure.

  • Pros: lots of food, shopping and great atmosphere
  • Cons: restaurants usually packed for dinner

WHAT AN AWESOME MALL!!!!

by kjeffers1 at Citysearch

This is by far the greatest mall in the triangle area. Great variety in the stores, more upper class. The other malls should be hanging their collective heads in shame!

pretty and relaxing

by apartmentremixer at Citysearch

This is prolly the nicest looking mall I've ever been to. easy access. This mall was typical looking on the outside, step in and its very eye pleasing.

features the typical mall shops like abercrombie, hects, nordstrom, and the like. However it also features a bose store, has a sharper image that has massaging chairs to try out I recommend using them after a long day of busy shopping there.

home decor stores were nice like bombay. very neat items in there! Prices were'nt bad for a mall. I also checked out some clothing stores like bodyco and they had some really nice sweaters for 15 bucks!

I think one thing this place could use is a radio shack! I also think they lack in electronics/tech stores. They need more than just an apple store and bose!

This mall seems to have a younger crowd. not very hectic

  • Pros: atmosphere, well planned, location
  • Cons: no radio shack, not much tech stores, exting can be tricky

GO GO GO

by nanabond005 at Citysearch

This mall will always amaze me. I now live in northern Florida where shopping a bit to be desired. I miss being that close to a super mall. The customer service at the Nordstroms, Apple Store, and the movie theater are top notch. It has some limited variety in the fact that plus size woman have trouble at that mall finding everything they need. The restaraunts are supurb. Where ever you are you need to go to this mall.

  • Pros: Customer Service, Apple Store, Location

Livesomewhereelsetocompare

This is a great mall. We lived in the NE (CT, Hartford area) last year and it was horrible. The shopping was pittiful and so were the restaurants. The people weren't any better as far as making you feel welcome and friendly. We might as well as not had neighbors because we weren't NE we didn't belong. We couldn't be happier to be back and Southpoint is a great addition to NC. Appreciate what you have unless you go elsewhere and see what they have. If you like it better, stay there. If you came from somewhere else and don't like it here; maybe you should look to go elsewhere as we did. We came back for that reason. Life is way too short to be unhappy.

Main St a great in nice weather

by mksmith at Citysearch

Love the architecture. Stores are typical mall stores/prices, some are new to area. Better selection of restaurants than most malls. There seems to be plenty of parking, however leaving is a nightmare! Who designed that parking lot? You can see the exits, but you can't get to them. "Welcome to Hotel California, you can check out anytime you want, but you can never leave!" I don't think Hects has any employees! I might shop there if I could find a salesperson to ring up the sale.

  • Pros: good restaurants, plenty of parking
  • Cons: poor parking exits
