Good Place for Dancing

by azdang

I went to the Library on a Saturday night. It was my first time EVER out in Chapel Hill, and I had a lot of fun. They played great music, and I never once could stop dancing. We hung out with some really nice, fun people there and had a great time. I would definitely recommend it to anyone who likes to dance, but it's also good for those who like to chill out as they have places to sit and play pool, if you don't mind the loud music.

  • Pros: Great music, fun people

Awesome Time

by 12456789

We celebrated my friend's birthday at The Library this past Saturday night and OH what a time!!!! We originally were going to another bar but when we heard the music, we had to check it out.....It was an awesome time! DJ Dre Vaughn kept the music fresh and stylin', people dancing, buying the birthday girl drinks (thanks BARTENDER!!), no snobs or jerks, awesome, cool place to get your dancing fix and parch your thirst, well will be returning :)

  • Pros: Good music, good people, great staff, ect...
  • Cons: drinks a bit pricey

Rough crowd, rude staff, worse drinks

by steeveo

I avoid The Library at all costs out of all places on Franklin Street . I've lived in Chapel Hill since I was a half year old and have been to every location on Franklin Street for almost 10 years. I have one friend who goes there to try to pick-up random strangers and he drags me there sometimes, and I usually end my night and go home rather than face the prospect of going inside The Library. I have been repeatedly (1) served drinks that are all cheap alcohol and no mix, (2) surrounded by a rough crowd trying to pick-up my friends on the sketchy dance floor, (3) overcharged for drinks (please watch your tab), and (4) treated so very rudely by the staff. The service is horribly slow; I remember actually timing the wait at 23 minutes just to get a Bud Light bottle. Ever had a taste of iced house vodka before? It is not good. They changed management recently and the current owner (or manager?) is highly unprofessional and has a temper; if you actually check your tab and see that you've been overcharged, don't even bother trying to dispute it. You'll be yelled at and thrown out; I've known at least two graduate students in professional schools who have gotten thrown out of the bar. There are too many other places on Franklin Street that define the Chapel Hill experience (and that have none of the above issues) to risk ruining your night by going to Library. Further, if you have an event you'd like to plan, good luck keeping a rough crowd out of the place so your guests can enjoy the event in peace. Check out Top of the Hill for drinks with class and taste, East End Martini Bar for three different bars in one (dance floor, Martini bar with live music, and pool tables), and PT's (dance floor, outdoor patio). I know several local promoters and event organizers who won't book events there for just the reasons I mentioned here. They prefer Tallula's and Mansion 462, which are just down the street, for a more open, clean, non-sketchy space with a better sound system, bigger dance floor, and most importantly a professional staff to work with. Also, note that the positive reviews are written by people with only one review, hmmm.

  • Cons: Rough crowd, rough staff, prepare to be overcharged

Bar none, worst establishment in chapel hill-scratch that- NC

by laureljb

Not only did I get charged $100.00 for an $18.00 tab, but I was verbally assulted by two bartenders and a manager. Then they claimed to have cancelled my tab and put it on my boyfriend's and instead kept the charge on mine, totaling $200.00 for the two of us. The manager yelled in my face before kicking my entire group out of the bar, solely because we attempted to dispute a bill that was 5 times the amount we actually bought and received. My whiskey sour was ALL whiskey- no sour, I waited at least 10 minutes for every crappy drink I got, and I have never been treated so despicably by anyone, much less any bar manager, in my life.

Great Friday Night

by funtimesnc

We went on Friday night. The line to get in was not long at all. The drink service was fairly quick and the dance floor was full. It was a lot of fun, we will definitely go there again. There is a really good mix of guys and girls. I would definitely recommend it.

  • Pros: Good mix of guys and girls. Fast service. Great dance floor.

This Chapel Hill social scene proves it's hip to be bookish.

In Short
You won't find too many freshman in this long, narrow bar full of wooden tables and comfortable stools. Gone are the books, replaced with a university-sized selection of beer and liquor. On weekends, an older crowd of professionals or grad students can be found socializing and enjoying the live music. Maybe it's filling out a membership form that dissuades some undergrads--especially those with dubious IDs. During the week, though, it's not uncommon for the Library to host Greek events.

The Library Rocks

by gcobbunc

Unreal, last saturday (1/28/06) was insane.

I didn't get there till 11:30 and the line was out the door. The place was looking real nice.

I think it has been updated since the pic on citysearch. I hadn't been in a couple of years and they really made added a nice flavor. I like the vibe a lot and the people were cool.

  • Pros: Ladies, Dance Floor

Wednesday isn't just hump day anymore!

by missmoriah

With an everchanging crowd and entertainment, you are sure to find your niche at The Library! Wednesday nights are my favorite with the sexiest dance music from DJ Kid AG with his all request nights! Oh but who could resist the cute bartender Aaron with his special invention drinks or "Adorable Alex" the owner who brings such a smile to Franklin Street. So find a parking spot, pull up a stool, and order a "Smurfette" whenever the mood strikes you, we'll be there!

  • Pros: Great Live Music, Pool, Games, TV, Sounds great

Fantastic Music Venue

by freemana1

To call The Library simply a bar is inaccurate at best. The place caters to live music, offering quality bands at least 3 times a week. I've partied there more times than I can remember and can't get enough. Great service, professional barstaff and a perfect atmosphere!
