Great for the most part!

There are lots of pros to this place! I've been a client for almost four years now and pay the same price each month that I initially signed up for. In addition, the selection of beds is fantastic - between the basic, VIP, platinum, stand-up, Mist, and spa beds, there really is a bed to fit my needs for that day, whether that be time, length and intensity of exposure, etc. Needless to say, the place in my experience has always been spotless and very clean.

The only con is the customer service. When the owners are there, they're fantastic - they greet you, are friendly, and make the atmosphere nice when there's a wait for the beds. If the managers aren't there, though, and the ladies at the front desk are left to their own devices, your experience might be less than stellar. I'm very rarely spoken to (even when I greet them or thank them afterward) and on several occasions have had to wait while they finish up their personal phone calls. One one occasion, one of the ladies was screaming expletives while on the phone with KFC because they had gotten her order wrong; several of us had to wait a few minutes while she screamed on the phone before we were acknowledged.

So occasionally the customer service might not be great by any means but I think the other pros to the place make up for it!

Very caring experience

I have been a member at PB for about 3 years now. I had to put my account on hold/freeze; I just could not afford it anymore. Then as many may have experienced my bank sent me a different debit card. Did I mention I also moved and never updated my information? Needless to say my PB account fell 3 months behind due to the different numbers on my debit card and they needed to place my account into collections. As a professional I completely understand.

Once I was finally tracked down by the collection agency, I was able to call the store, speak to the owner, go in the next day and talk about my options. When I went in the Owner (Brent) was fabulous. I explained that I had recently been laid-off as well and how I just had been in a really bad place. He was completely supportive and sensitive to the situation. My new information has been entered; I am now out of collections and TRUST me when I say they worked with me.

Then to top it off, he could tell I was stressed and gave me a 20 Hydration on the house. PB is a great place and I will never go anywhere else. When I left they were more concerned about me as a person then my account. Not many owners of a company would take that amount of time or give that amount of consideration

This Place Is The Place To Be!

If you want that Beautiful Deep Bronze Tan that you see and think Dang I want that tan!! Then this is the place to go!! The staff is great and the beds are Wonderful!! If you want to stay away from the UV rays then get a spray tan! I had it done for my wedding and it looked great!

Nicest Salon in the Area!

I went to Planet Beach at South Sqaure Mall 2 days ago and was greeting by a friendly knowledgeable staff. The salon was spotless and they have equipment that is out of this world. I returned yesterday and was once again greeted with a fun and personable staff. I highly recommend this place and have found my place to tan for years to come. You gotta check this place out!!

Be Careful.....

I just canceled my membership and was unaware of the hidden fees to get out of the contract. When I called the person was busy cleaning beds and helping folks that were walking in the door so the explanation of the fees kept changing with every other conversation he was having with others. In the end, I owed $155 to cancel my membership. I was going to wait out my contract but he said there was still a cancellation fee even at the end of a contract!!! What is that about??

Anyhow, in my opinion, PB is not any better than other tanning salons even if the equipment "looks" cool, I never got a better tan and I actually had better service at my old tanning salon (which I don't go to as it is not in this town). Basically you get the same tan and you do end up paying additional fees at the end of your membership or if you need to cancel. If you sign up for the unlimited and later want to change that is not so easy either!! So be careful....

At Planet Beach Contmpo Spa we have packages that fit everyones needs. We sell individual sessions, multiple sessions, 1, 3, 6, and 12 month unlimited paid in full options. None of these options require a membership. We also offer 12 and 24 month memberships. Those that sign a membership get several member benefits. Members get discounts on lotions, can make appointments, can use any Planet Beach nation wide and also get a discounted price per month. You did owe a cancellation fee because you cancelled your membership early and we do ask for a 30 day notice so we can take care of things. It's all spelled out in your membership form which you signed in 2 places. We also go through the membership with you when you sign it.

We offer a full line of Skin care products and do personal demonstration to make sure you have the correct product. We have a soothing and rejenvating Spa Bed, state of the art Mystic Spray Tan, and 4 levels of tanning.

DUKE-Check this place out!

I am a Duke Student from Florida. I tanned in Florida for seveeral years and was very worried about finding another place by Duke. I visited Planet Beach at South Square mall a week or so ago (about .5 mile from Duke)...WOW was I impressed. They have loads of new tanning equipment but they also have relaxing Spa beds and spray tan. I am a med student and find this such a welcome treat for myself. I do it twice a week. This place literally dissolves my stresses away. They cater to Duke students, they are friendly, the place is extremely clean, and I really like the staff. It makes me feel a little like home! FELLOW STUDENTS- check this place out.

You HAVE to CHECK this place out!

I have been to a ton of tanning salons but this place is the best I have ver been to. It not only has several levels of tanning but also has a relaxing spa bed and the Mystic spray tan got me great results. I found the staff very helpfull and informative. Way to go Planet Beach South Sqaure, you have earned my business!

very dissapointed!

I really hate doing this as I am a business owner myself but I just had hands down the worst customer service experience of my life. I visited the tanning salon on a Sunday afternoon and the young lady at the counter not only ignored the fact that I walked in, she walked right past me to sit down in the waiting area to explain new packages to two potential clients. I do understand the importance for new clientelle so I waited patiently and did not say a word. Meanwhile, other customers were coming in and forming a queue.

The staff member still did not acknowledge anyone and after a couple more minutes made her way back to the counter. What I didn?t notice and was not advised to do is that two customers behind me had signed the ?sign in?

Sheet. The staff member at this point looked behind me in line and called two customers behind me and asked them what bed they would like to lay in. Finally, when there was no one else in line and after I had been standing there for around 15 minutes total, the young lady told me that she was ?full? and I would have to ?wait a while?. Then I told her that I would just leave and quickly she smirked, ?ok, I?ll cross your name out.? No apology or explanation was given. My wife nor I will ever be back. Between the two of us that is 100 dollars a month that we will spend elsewhere. I do not usually complain and am very understanding but this goes above and beyond bad customer service. This is just plain rudeness.

Tan elsewhere!

This salon is the most expensive in the area. Avoid salon after 4pm, it's crowded and associates don't keep up with scheduled appointments so you end up waiting anyway. Also, in my experience the management was very unprofessional!

I am very sorry that you did not enjoy your experience with my salon. At Planet Beach South Square we definitely focus on providing the best customer service possible. Our prices are also very competitive and if you find someone cheaper we will match anyone's price. We are also one of the only salons with a state of the art High Pressure Bed imported from Italy and a massage hydration bed. So in the end it is very hard to compare us as we have very unique, awe enspiring equipment.

We take 100's of appointments per week and make it a point to deliver on time appointments. Most salons do not even take appointments. I can honestly say your experience of late appointments was a rarity and definitely not the norm.

In closing I want you to know that I prominately position my business cards in this salon which contains my contact info. I encourage you to call me so that I can give you the individual attention to this matter that you deserve.

Great Place

I am a Duke student and it is really convenient to school and everyone I know goes here - we love Planet Beach!. The people that work there are really friendly and helpful and they keep it clean. I always have great color from all of their different beds and find that I don't have to go as often as I have in the past with other tanning salons. It is definitely the nicest tanning salon in Durham.
