Great Sushi Great Prices
by babadoeke
Akashi is our new fave sushi restaurant in the area. The sushi never fails to satisfy and the you can't beat the prices. Try the tuna jaw appetizer...you won't be disappointed!!
Great Sushi and Service
by carygal2323
They food is fantastic and cheap. Also they are usually pretty fast even at lunch when they are super busy. The sushi chef's are super nice and we love sitting at the sushi bar and chatting with them.
- Pros: Cheap and Fast, Excellent Sushi!
- Cons: Closed Sundays, Strange Location
Best sushi in Triangle - I kid you not
by jolo2
This is admittedly almost the same review that I entered on Akashi's other Citysearch entry. I did want to point out that when you see overwhelming 5 star reviews with multiple paragraphs of praise and then just a few people with vague criticisms who give 1 stars, hopefully you can draw the correct conclusion as to which to trust. Maybe it's the competition spouting off jealously, maybe it's somebody who feels the need to be a contrarian, who knows, who cares. :)
So I'll keep it brief here - I've eaten sushi all over Asia, big cities in this country etc. This place surprisingly rivals some of the best ones I've ever been to. Don't get me wrong, of course Akashi doesn't have the super high-end ingredients and class of a place like Osho in the Bay Area, but then again, you're not paying a fortune either. The half off sushi really is half off, no silly "equal or lesser value" gimmicks. The chef is the guy who made nearby Shiki Sushi famous, this is his new place and if you dare to compare, you'll see why people are raving. Talk to him a little and you'll see just how dedicated he is to his craft. If you are a real sake fan, ask for the imported sakes which are not on the menu.
The only cons are just the fact that it's in a pretty run down strip mall, and the decor is fairly plain. (They've spruced it up a lot recently, so the bright cafeteria lights and cheap chairs etc. are thankfully gone.) I come here for the excellent food, friendly service, and convenient 54/55 location. If you want fancy atmosphere, go to Shiki. If you want the best sushi in the Triangle at unbelievably cheap prices, you owe it to yourself to try Akashi.
- Pros: Outstanding food, service, and amazingly cheap price
- Cons: Location in run down strip mall, so-so decor
Krab with a "k"
by morpheus0107
Rolls were marginal, nigiri was just okay. Careful when ordering the "Crab" nigiri; they don't tell you its actually the artificial stuff and has all the appeal of fish flavored spaghetti. Yikes.
great everything
by JFwrestle
the service was great, but best of all the food. the sushi ive been to places all over the triangle but they have the best sushi. Just becuase its a sushi resturant doesnt mean it doesnt still uphold high standards for everything else. the steak and chicken i had was cooked perfectly and you dont get shorted on it either. the rice was great. the soup was the best soup i have had at any japanese resturant. i ate the tofu and spinich soup. ten times better then the onion soup. be sure to try it. if you get a chance be sure to check out akashi japanese resturaunt. you wont regret it
- Pros: steak, rice, soup, price, service, sushi
best sushi at the best prices in the triangle
by Sashimilover1
Simply the best in the triangle. I have been eating sushi since I was in grade school and this gem is the best I have ever found. The prices here are very affordable, and the sushi selection is vast and fresh. Even in you don't enjoy sushi, the teppenyaki selection here is wonderful. The head teppenyaki chef has more than 20 years experience. I took my date here and she was very impressed!
- Pros: Awesome affordable food, staff
- Cons: none.
Favorite Sushi Place
by BFlippin
I love Akashi for three reasons. One because it is in a great location. It is very close to work, and very easy to get to. Two because their sushi is amazing. I have found that not only do they have really good sushi that is fresh, but everything is at such a reasonable price, and that is hard to come by these days. The last reason is their great employees. I always get good service there. Sometimes the waitresses are busy, but I have never waited to long for a refill or for a check. It is altogether a great place to eat.
Best sushi value ever - very good sushi at a great price!
by markuwp
We love Akashi and go there more often than any other restaurant in town. I think their sushi is as good or better than anywhere else in town. It is without question the best sushi value I've ever encountered-- good quality at a great price. The servers are generally hardworking and nice and the manager is very friendly. I think the service and speed are usually very good, but on weekend nights they sometimes get very busy. My only knock on the sushi is that it isn't as consistent as at higher-end sushi bars. The taste is always great, but sometimes the rolls aren't cut into perfectly even pieces or the level of wasabi in the nigiri differs. If you're looking for sushi-as-art and don't mind spending a fortune, this is probably not for you. If you want tasty and creative sushi at incredibly low prices, this is the best sushi place I've ever seen.
- Pros: value, friendly service, great variety and taste
- Cons: sushi is not 100% consistent
AMAZING
by spinningninny
Akashi has become a quick favorite of mine. It is BY FAR the highest quality sushi and the most varied selection in the area. Everything is delicious...and nearly everything is half off. To celebrate their one-year anniversary, they cut most of their prices in half. You can pretty much stuff your face on some of the most delectable, beautiful pieces of sushi that you will ever see for a fraction of the price. I highly recommend the Romeo Roll, and the Carolina Sunrise and Sunset Rolls. There are many, many others but those are particularly awesome. The service can sometime be a bit slow, but the outcome is worth the wait.
- Pros: Amazing selection
- Cons: None...
Very good and affordable sushi
by kmg73
I used to be a regular at Shiki from the time it first opened its doors. Now I tend to dine more often at Akashi due to the great sushi and very affordable prices ( I dine there at least once a week). All rolls and nigiri are 50% off of the listed menu price (rolls range from $2.25 to $5.50; nigiri is $1-$1.25). Specials are not subject to the 50% pricing. The free edamame is also a plus. I guess I am not a wasabi connoisseur but I don't think what is served at Akashi is that much milder than other places I have tried. I will admit that the atmosphere is basic, but I don't go there for the atmosphere. Service can be slow at times, mainly during the very busy lunch crowd and if they so happen to be down a waitress or two (it does happen at even the best restaurants). With that said, more often than not I have been very pleased with the service and the food. To avoid a wait, go early or late for lunch (11:30 or after 1 or 1:30 p.m.). Lunchtime on Friday is particularly crowded.
- Pros: Quality sushi, affordable prices
- Cons: Busy at lunchtime
