Sit at the bar -try the wings & nachos
by jbird1 at Citysearch
I've had several entree items that I wouldn't order again. BUT, several times I've sat at the bar on the main dining room side and had very good wings. Get them plain with hot sauce on the side. The other night we got the nachos and it was HUGE plate, loaded with meat and cheeses. The bartenders on the main dining room side have always been polite and knowledgable esp. Leigh and the girl that works Fri. nites. Also had the Philly Chicken s'wich which was good.
- Cons: kitchen closes early
Never going back!

I went there after a Durham Bulls game last weekend. My friends just got engaged so we were ready to continue the celebration. We went inside Tyler's and got a round of drinks. Inside was pretty dead, so we went outside. We saw the tables in the front of the restaurant, but noticed there was a "please see hostess for seating" sign. My friend went inside and spoke to the hostess. The hostess said it was fine that we sat there. As we all started to sit down, a very rude waitress came over and told us we couldn't sit there unless we were eating dinner. We explained that we spoke to the hostess (she knew we just got drinks and wanted to sit down), but the rude waitress continued to tell us we couldn't sit there even though we told her someone else said we could. She said there was "first come, first serve" seating around the corner. So, we hung around until there was a free table. After sitting down for a few minutes (at a table with 5 dirty glasses), we decided that we were actually pretty hungry. I saw a waiter walking by, picking up stuff off the tables, so I asked him if we could see a menu. He said that "this section is closed" and if we wanted any service, we would have to go to the bar. EXCUSE ME! He didn't even offer to drop off a menu nor did he take the dirty glasses. He just took the condiments from the table. This was the worst experience I have ever had. I can't believe that they would treat anyone that way. Especially since the proximity to the Bulls Stadium... you would think they would welcome the business in an otherwise quiet area. Thanks Tyler's for ruining a great night for my friends that just got engaged. We are still outraged.
great food, great drinks

The menu had a good variety of options on it. Everything our group ordered tasted great! I LOVE the garlic fries!
Great beer selection.
Service was not amazing. Not terrible... but almost rude at times. Took FOREVER to get our bill.
- Pros: food was great!
- Cons: slightly hidden location, service
Great beer selection, not so great food

Tyler's Taproom has a great selection of beers. The restaurant has several different areas, so even when it's crowded, it doesn't feel overwhelming.
But the food was not that good for the price. I had the beef brisket. It's described as "slow smoked." A properly cooked brisket gets tender, practically falls apart and is easy to cut with a fork. This one was not. The three slices were all tough and chewy. I had trouble cutting them with a knife. The baked beans were also on the tough side.
I ate at the outdoor bar. Apparently Tyler's has had problems with people walking off because their policy is to hold your credit card at the bar. When I was ready to pay up and leave, they brought me someone else's credit card. I'm glad I noticed.
- Pros: Great beer selection, lots of seating
- Cons: Food is poor
Will definitely be back!

Went for the first time before a Bull's game and had a great experience! It was a little loud, but the overall atmosphere was very warm and inviting. Looking around us everyone was having a good time including kids! That's right, kids! Tyler's is obviously very kid-friendly. I had the pork special and my husband had the carolina burger. Both were awesome! It was not a hard sell to get my husband to go with the variety of beers that they offer (all of which are served in their own glass!). I only wish we had one in Raleigh! I definitely recommend going if you haven't been before.
- Pros: The atmosphere, beer quality and service
- Cons: A little loud
This owner deserves what he gets

I would not recommend eating or working at Tyler's Taproom. Recently a manager was fired for not reporting to work on his one and only DAY OFF. He frequently worked 50 and 60+ work weeks over 10, 11, and sometimes 12 days straight and they paid him NEXT TO NOTHING. In fact, all of his hours added up might get him about $4.00 an hour. When he didn't answer his phone because he was enjoying his day off, he returned to work where he was fired on the spot. Basically these people deserve what they get and I hope it's bankruptcy!
- Pros: can't think of any
- Cons: lousy owners; bad management

Beautiful building. OK food. Toast the buns on the hamberger. Never serve cold buns!! The hamburger ain't got no flavor to it. The chips are good. I liked those a lot. The last time I got garlic fries and my OWN breath almost overcame me. That poor clerk at Food Lion, when I burped. Service was excellent.
Great beer selection, good service, well equipped games room, bad food

To rate Tyler's on beer alone, it would most certainly deserve 5 stars (Tyler's has an outstanding number of foreign and domestic beers on tap), but this destination is let down by the poor quality of the food, which leads me to my average rating. My breakdown is as follows:
Beer selection: 5 stars (Belgian, US Microbrew, English ? you name it, its on tap)
Food: 1.5 stars (Reasonably priced, poor quality *** See comment below)
Service: 4 stars (Quick service)
Environment/Ambiance: 4 stars (A nice atmosphere in a renovated warehouse - loud when busy)
Facilities: 4 stars (A well equipped pool/games room adjacent to the main dining area, with a separate bar)
*** The food, the food. I visit Tyler's frequently for the beer alone, and steer clear of the food menu. Why? Well, it just does not taste good, the burgers are greasy, the pickle chips limp, French fries oily. I think that this is worrisome, because disappointed diners will stop frequenting the place, and as a consequence there is the danger that we will loose a potentially fine destination in the ATHD. The Tyler's cook/management should visit the Federal, to see how a bar can serve great beer and good quality food at the same time.
- Pros: Great beer selection
- Cons: Bad tasting food
Best bar food!

Make sure you order fries! The garlic fries are the best! The burgers are great, and so is the service. Beer selection is phenomenal. This is definately my favorite bar (especially to have dinner at).
- Pros: best bar food ever, great beer, very cool interior
- Cons: none
Mmmm.....beer

I've written a review at inthetriangle.blogspot.co#/. Long story short, go for the beer, not the food. Please visit and read more!
- Pros: Great beer selection, great location
- Cons: average service, pedestrian food
Great after work place to just unwind
by jlawmd at Citysearch
I have never tried their resturant, but their "speakeasy" (beer bar) is a great place to go after work. You can shoot some pool, sit on their couches and listen to the juke box, and try some of their 60 beers on tap. They also have a huge selection of bottled beers to try.
- Pros: Great location, great beer selection.
- Cons: Can be loud sometimes.
