Brick Oven Pizza is the Real Deal!
by tmmanente
I live 25 mins from Bocci and I will drive there and back home with the wonderful brick oven pizza in hand. The drive is so worth it if you love a more "authentic" Italian style pizza. The sauce is amazing! Also, other dishes are very good as well -- including: lasagna and chicken parmigiana. Enjoy!
- Pros: Best brick oven pizza I've had in NC
- Cons: Seating inside is a bit tight
Ok Food, Ok Service, Bad Management

So for starters, I'm confused by the other reviews. Everyone notes that this is authentic italian, but then go on about how great the pizza is...? My wife and I decided to try something new last night have noticed this place a couple of weeks ago. We were seated immediately, the atmosphere was dim, but nicely lit, and service was great... until our waitress disappeared and left us for about 20 minutes after our food was served, and never returned. Another waitress actually refilled the cups, not ours. Now, the food. My wife's entree was fine...good sauce, well cooked. The appetizer (wrapped scallops) had a sauce that was ok, but something didn't work with the flavors.
And my entree, the salmon and risotto with mushrooms or something to that effect. First, who would cover up a nice filet of salmon anyway with a mushroom gravy (or whatever you choose to call it on the menu??)? Perhaps if it's overcooked...Ah Ha! And I know times are hard, but really, serving tiny filet's to people doesn't inspire anyone to return. So...small, over-cooked, and covered in gravy. The risotto you ask, not bad, but too much mushroom when next to the salmon. The dish overall was just unattractive. I do not claim to be a chef in any way, shape or form, but that was just BAD!!! What really kills me is the waitress returning to inform me that Bob felt I should pay the $17 for the meal even though I clearly only took one bite and pushed the plate away. Had the waitress come back and check on us to see how we were enjoying our meal, she would have seen it much sooner.... Unbelievable...I know times are hard, but really, getting over on customers can't be good for business.
- Pros: the lighting...sadly, not much impressed me.
- Cons: First time, won't be back. Ok service, Bad management
Good food in Durham... no way
by espresso87
After having their nona pizza, I refuse to order any other kind of pizza. Best pizza you will ever eat. Food is good as well, I've ordered food a few times, but mostly it's the pizza, but I'm sure all their other stuff is great. You will not be disappointed.
- Pros: anything you can think about in a restaurant and the nona pizza
- Cons: the parking is in a shopping center so it gets crowded sometimes.
OK Pizza without Southern Hospitality
by PhillyLittleItaly
I know good pizza since living in Philly, NY, and Chicago. This place was recommended to me being new to the area...so I figured why not, I am always looking for good Italian Restaurants. The blonde haired, stuck up waitress had a complete attitude from the start. Give me a break lady! She seriously acted like I was there solely to bother her. Overheard her complaining to the other waitress (who actually smiled) about another couple who asked for more napkins! The food was good and the menu was impressive....seemed authentic Italian. I had the Sicilian pizza (hard to find down south) and it was alright but the crust was mediocre compared to Philadelphia Style and I am looking forward to trying different dishes from this place...to-go of course.
- Pros: Nice Menu, Casual Environment, Good Sauce
- Cons: Snotty Service, Kinda Pricey for Pizza
Great Food

The food here is really good. The resturant is not too big and has a nice atmosphere for a couple or a group of six or more. It's a nice place to go during the week for a relaxing meal with great service and reasonable prices. We drive out of our way to go here. The pasta dishes are wonderful and the pizza is well worth the visit.
- Pros: Price, quality, service, parking.
- Cons: None
Yummy Pizza!!

I go to Bocci quite often and everything I have had there was great. The pizza is especially good and the staff is extremely nice and knowledgeable about the food. I will continue to go to Bocci for the best Italian food and I have already highly recommended it to several friends!!
- Pros: ambiance, price, staff
Wow!

Bocci has an excellent ambiance. Its nicely decorated, the lighting is good, and the staff aims to please. When you go to lunch or dinner there, you will feel well attended too. My wife and I eat there regularly and we love it.
Having come from Boston, we had heard that good Italian food was a non-starter in NC. However, Bocci and Trilussa over in Chapel Hill, have served us up some of the best Italian food anywhere. Bocci, quite simply, has some of the best pizza I have ever had in my life. It compares to the best of the North End. The Nonna's pizza is AMAZING! We have tried each style on the menu and all are excellent. The main dishes are also very good. My wife is in heaven every time we go there. I am not the biggest fan of their red sauce, but it is fresh and well prepared so its just a matter of personal taste.
You won't leave Bocci unsatisfied and one trip will make you a regular :)
welcome to durham, al dente

pasta is done right =) actually, the only place in the triangle (that i know of) where pasta is cooked
to the right consistency. the price is right, too. pizza (brick oven thin crust) is the way it's supposed to be.
thank you bocci.
- Pros: correct food @ fair price
- Cons: wait can be long... but it's worth it
good food, good prices

This place is good, but not amazing. I love the outdoor seating area and no wait both times I went. The thick-crust pizza is not too bad - the dough was burnt in places and undercooked in places. For the side house salad, I expected better lettuce than iceberg (but at $2.50, I can't complain). I liked the grilled chicken with veggies, despite my apprehension in ordering veggies on the side. As my husband put it, "For $9, the lasagna is awesome." This place is close to my house, but if it wasn't I may not make a special trip.
- Pros: good price on basics, nice outdoor seating
- Cons: some dishes seem a little expensive
It's worth the wait!

Bocci is a great Italian restaurant that I would recomend to anyone looking for good food, great atmosphere, great service, and reasonable pricing. The pizza is outstanding and very homemade. My recomendation would be to try Nonni's Pizza (a variation on margherita pizza) and if you're looking for a tasty pasta dish, the Marsala melts in your mouth. And Bocci has the best calamari I've had in ages.
The atmosphere is cozy and homey and the waitstaff are very prompt, responsive, and personable.
There is usually a wait on Fridays and Saturdays, so come early for a good seat. Their pricing is not unreasonable, less than $20 for any entree, and they have a great deal on dinner for two (I think it's Thursdays and Sundays, but call to be sure) that includes wine and everything. I have been there three times and am going back tonite to celebrate Valentines Day. Try it! It's definately worth it!
- Pros: Prices, Service, Food, Ambiance
- Cons: the wait on the weekends
