Thank you, TVEC

Our 18 year old cat had a not unexpected decline (she had stopped eating and drinking) right at the Memorial Day Weekend. We knew this was it. We brought her over to the clinic since our regular vet was closed. They checked her out, determined she was dehydrated, but that to find out what the real cause was, they would need to run more tests, etc. It was the vet's recommendation, and we agreed totally, that this was not a prudent course given the circumstances. After a brief discussion, they gave us time alone with kitty, then they gently put her to sleep. It was very sad for us, but it was absolutely the right thing to do. The staff at this clinic were very good, respectful, and caring, both towards our cat and towards us. I think it would be hard to work here because you get a lot of these cases. Later in the week, we received a sympathy card signed by everyone at the clinic.
- Pros: caring and competent
- Cons: none
Great Job

I took my dog there for collapse. Within 30 minutes they had diagnosed the problem (HGE) and started treatment. Everyone there was nice and the doctor appeared to really know what she was doing. By the next day she was well enough to go home and has been doing great since. It was scary to have to go to an emergency hospital in the middle of the night but I wouldn't hesitate to go there again if my dog was in trouble.
Poor service, poor medicine, poor value

Go to VSH in Cary or N Raleigh for emergencies after hours! I had the worst experiences at this hospital, despite trying it numerous times in 3 years as this is closer, in Durham. Previously named TPETS, Traingle Pet Emergency, this place hasn't improved with new owner, new name, or new staff. I'd rather drive an extra 20 miles folks! I was still seen sooner, with drive time included, at VSH, Cary than at TPETs. Poor service, poor diagnostics, over-medicate yet under-treat if that is possible. OVER priced for the value of treatment/service, and poor recommendations. Merely medicate a severe case of pyometra in young happy dog?! How about emergency Spay?! Rude regarding euthanasia of critical pet. Before I even ingested diagnoses of other pets, judgmentally recommended highly unsuccessful options versus euthanasia. My regular vet and VSH had much better advice, service, compassion, skill, and medicine. And always, always keep your regular vet informed of the emergency and progress, and transport back to pet's regular vet if possible during their operational hours during week! I give fluids at home under the skin thanks to my vet's instructions and call her with any updates; TPETs would have had me bring him in daily!! Another visit, they rouqhly handled my critical case 12 y.o. female who is arthritic and had trauma to her abdomen...forceful throwdown, muzzled her, declared her high caution (danger), which she's never been labeled in 12 years at 5+ hospitals in Triangle area (she's CGC, Therapy Dog, and did not snap or growl when her leg was broken 4 years prior to this incident, extreme pain, while it was poked, touched, treated for over 8 weeks!) and proceeded to misdiagnose her, but I avoided catastrophe by getting doc on the phone, telling what to authorize and what was legitimate diagnostics to rule out cause/effects. Tried repeatedly to keep my pets during week daytime. DO NOT GO to TVEC, TPETS, or whatever they call themselves now!
