I wouldn't eat sushi anywhere else...

by sj234 at Citysearch

I love this place. If you like fresh fish, akai hana is the place to eat sushi. It's unbelievable!! The service is excellent, the lighting is great. I highly recommend the seaweed salad, miso soup, and the pork dumplings as an appetizer. YUMMY!!!! If you are not a big fan of fresh, raw fish, maybe try the steak teriaki or a hot noodle soup. Both are Bangin'!!! Then last, but not least, try the mochi. The wine selection is a winner too. cheers!

  • Pros: ambience, parking, service, quality, quantity, lighting, merchandise

Date night regular

by ABrown79 at Citysearch

We go to this place so often that the sushi chefs know us. It's our standard date night restaurant, and we were so excited when they made the special, "White Star" sushi, a regular. Try the crunchy shrimp roll, if you're new to sushi (sooooo good)... but if you're a sushi-expert, try the exotic ones - you won't be disappointed. Easy going atmosphere.

  • Pros: Craving-inducing sushi, great service.

Great Sushi

by Matt Russell at Citysearch

When it comes to sushi these guys do it right. We've tried several other places around and no one even comes close to Akai Hana. Their rolls are always fresh and I've never tried one I didn't like. Definitely try the crispy shrimp roll, very tasty. Best of all the price is very reasonable, not to mention they have some killer specials. The best place in Chapel Hill to get sushi!!!

Great Sushi!

by steph14 at Citysearch

Akai Hana is a great little sushi place, close to franklin street but not right in the center of all the commotion. They've got great deals on certain nights, and the crunchy shrimp roll is fantastic!

Good Sushi at a Nice Restaurant

by Chalemdrel at Citysearch

My girlfriend took me here last time I came up to UNC and the sushi is delicious. The atmosphere is such that even though it was rather crowded when we went, it still managed to be cozy. There are enough specials to keep it from denting your wallet too bad, but expensive enough to only be a special occasions thing. Overall, good enough to be worth the price with someone special.

  • Pros: good food
  • Cons: more people than seats

A cute restaurant for all sorts of sushi lovers

by LizzyJane at Citysearch

Akai Hana is my go to place a dinner with the out of town relative who's buying. Lots of local charm and the best sushi I've found in the area, at typical sushi prices.

But with lots of specials, it's easy to visit even on a student's budget by buying a roll and then filling up on cheap white rice and miso.

Plenty of non-sashimi options for the squeamish out there too. I took my sushi virgin mother here, and even she enjoyed herself.

Very intimate space, but also crowded at times. Beware of too few parking spaces.

  • Pros: Specials, Sushi
  • Cons: Parking, Crowded
