After 3 years of searching... I finally found my salon/stylist!
by Tovaqt
I moved to Chapel Hill from Los Angeles about 3 years ago. Even after doing exhaustive searching, traveling to Raleigh and the outer limits of the Triangle, I still had ZERO luck with finding a hair salon or stylist that I'm completely happy with. Wouldn't you know it, the place I was looking for was right around the corner. The Beehive is a fabulous salon and Meridith Grey is... just perfect.
The salon is conveniently located in downtown Carrboro, has a cute retro-50's/60's feel and just has a great feel (they will be tripling their salon space in the next few months!). Meridith is a wealth of knowledge, extremely skilled and just an amazing stylist. She took the time to talk with me, offer her own ideas and really understand what she was going to do with my hair before she did it. And did it she has! My hair hasn't looked this great since I lived in California!!
Thanks Meridith! Thanks Beehive! You have a new, dedicated and VERY HAPPY new customer in me!! :)
- Pros: Fun feel. Great stylists. Overall the perfect salon.
- Cons: The salon is a little cramped--- but they will be expanding soon (so not really a "con" at all).
Best salon I have ever been to. period.

This salon is AMAZING. Meridith Grey is the best stylist I have ever been to and I can honestly say this is the first haircut in many years that I LOVED. She made me look great which makes me feel great, and shes so personable. Highly highly highly recommend.
- Pros: everything is a pro
- Cons: small but they are expanding
Best Hair in Chapel Hill/Carrboro

I searched for years (literally) for a great hair stylist and finally found Diane at the Beehive. She spent a lot of time with me, listened to my ideas and told me her ideas. I am a mother of 2 young kids who wanted an easy but edgy style. She gave me a cute medium-length hair cut at first and then we grew it out to a longer shag, which looks sort of rock and roll-ish and is very easy. It also is always fun to go in because everyone who works there is nice and has fun conversations. I highly recommend the Beehive!
I liked my hair...but did not love it
by sunnyhappygirl
Let me start off by saying that the service was AMAZING!!! The woman who cut my hair (sorry I cannot remember her name) spent a long time with me. She was super nice and chatty and I really liked her. Unfortunately, I did not like my hair, though the damage was not too severe. She did not cut my hair like I wanted, but I also did not come in with a picture, just a verbal description. I also felt like I had too much product in my hair when I left. The salon could do more to create more of a peaceful atmosphere....some nice music would be good. Not the worst experience, not the best either.
- Pros: Super friendly service
- Cons: Not the hair cut I wanted
A Neighborhood Favorite

Cute salon, fun environment, reasonably priced, easy to tack on a quick trip to Weaver Street Market, which is just across the street. Tonya is a good stylist and is not afraid to be honest if you're asking for something unflattering or that won't work for you. She helped me get through the growing-out phase really painlessly. Also cut my teenaged son's hair -- it looked adorable and he was very happy with it! The only negative for me has been scheduling problems, mostly due to unexpected circumstances on the stylist's end and trouble rescheduling canceled appointments. Saturday slots can be hard to get, so schedule well in advance.
- Pros: skilled stylists, nice atmosphere, reasonably priced
- Cons: scheduling problems, no parking
Best Haircuts!

I can't speak highly enough about the Beehive or my stylist Meredith. I initially tried the salon (and Meredith) on the recommendation of other fine haired clients on this website and was just as impressed. Every time I get a haircut from her I get comments, and in fact most of my friends now go to her after asking where I get mine cut. I love her so much that even though I've recently moved to Rocky Mount (about an hour and a half from Carrboro) I still travel all the way back just to have her cut my hair! The salon itself is also really cute. Its small and trendy but really relaxed and unpretentious. Although I've never gone to any of the other stylists, I've never seen anyone leave with a bad haircut. Price wise they are pretty reasonable, my hair usually costs $40 and its worth it to be able to sit down say "do whatever you want with my hair" (which I often do) and know that its going to look great!
- Pros: Stylists, Atmosphere, Haircuts, etc.
- Cons: Parking, but just park in the Weaver St lot
The Bee's Knees

I highly recommend this salon. These girls know what they are doing. I have actually been to all three stylists and while they are different in technique they are all equally great. I have referred many friends and they have all been as pleased with the results as I have. Diane, Meredith and Tonya have all taken the time to consult with me and answer any questions regarding what would be best for my hair type. The best thing is they aren't afraid to tell you what isn't a good look for you. The atmosphere is so relaxed yet fun at the same time. It is a small salon but it only adds to that feeling of comradeship. The decor is awesome too. One simple review is not enough to express how happy I am to have found this little gem of a salon.

I have very fine and super straight hair and I finally found a stylist with my hair type! Ask for Meredith. She gave me a realistic cut that i can style myself in a few minutes. I have been getting compliments from everyone. It makes such a difference to find a stylist who actually lives with your hair type. She kicks butt!
- Pros: Staff
I've never been happier with my hair
by orangeowl
I have had a love hate relationship with my hair for nearly my whole life. It's curly, and most of the time, when going to a salon, unless the stylist actually has curly hair, there's little effort to understand how mine behaves or the tricks I've learned over a lifetime of battling with it. For a while in college, I resorted to cutting my own hair since most of the time I overpayed for a haircut that was never even much better than what I could do. Cutting curly hair is difficult--if you can do that well, then I can't even imagine what you could do with other types.
Gray, a stylist at the Beehive, is the first stylist I've ever had who seemed to really care about me being 150% happy. She spent a ton of time studying how my hair behaves, what works for my face (including hair coloring for my skintone). She really cares about how you feel afterwards and encourages you to go home, feel how the cut behaves, and let her know if there are any adjustments that need to be made. That meant a lot! I'm an absolute perfectionist when it comes to hair, and Gray is the first stylist I've ever had that I trust implicitly. She has a fine arts background, and it shows because her haircuts never look cookie-cutter. A friend of mine also goes to her, and her hair looks the best I've ever seen it too.
Basically, what it comes down to was that Gray is a stylist who approaches hair styling as an art that is very different for ever person. I've never been happier with my hair and I'm already dreading the day when I move to a new town and lose her :(
Especially great for curly hair cuts!

I have had my hair cut by Gray at the Beehive for being styled straight and to be styled curly (my hair is naturally curly/wavy) and I ALWAYS love how she cuts it. In addition to cuts, she does great color and is a natural artist for coloring hair, even for simple colors. The space has a good location for watching the world go by as you get your hair done.
