While there are absolutely great high points on the menu (many of the tapas plates are top notch and very affordable, especially on Wednesdays, and the drink specials are great) a lot of the food really has no taste. The basic burritos probably have the smothered option because, without it, they are flavorless. My husband just a huge lump of chicken and rice wrapped up, and had to pour salsa on it just to add any type of flavor and moisture to his meal.
Please, stop flyering our neighborhood unless you're going to give us coupons.
- Pros: great specials, some great sides, nice staff
- Cons: bland food, bad music
Lackluster & horrible marketing

Ate here and the service was okay. My wife and I found the food very bland. Later in the week our entire apt. Complex was littered by their advertisements. It rained the same day and their promotions were glued to everyone's windshield. It took me an hour w. a credit card and windex to scrape off the photographic image off my car

Disappointing mexican food...if you want authentic, go to Fiesta Grill or Los Potrillos. The food simply had little taste , what else can you say?
- Pros: Large portion of tasteless food
- Cons: Overpriced
Not the same but still friendly

I have been going to the Burrito for 20 years. While I don't find the new burrito as good as the old. I do still like their bartenders and the people you meet at the bar. Jim has done a good job making the bar a place you still like to visit (Who doesn't like seeing Prof. Phil). It takes some getting used to, but the new burrito is pretty good. The music could use an upgrade though.
- Pros: nice people, good beer list, great tv's
- Cons: too bright, changed the train wreck
Top neighborhood bar in Chapel Hill

My wife and I have been going to the Flying Burrito for 11 years. When it closed we were heartbroken but now think it better than ever since reopening. While retaining much of the spirit of the old Burrito in the name, margarita machine, signature dishes and decor, it is much improved in many other ways. The food is as good as ever with greater variety including a range of hamburgers, tapas and daily seafood specials. Pricing is great especially in these challenging times. Three high def TVs make it a great place for watching sports. Walking into the bar is like walking into Cheers with friendly wait staff and a steady crowd of regulars who form an extended Burrito family. Familiies love the informal nature of the dining room and you can see kids of all ages almost any night. The new owner has made a great effort to meet customers and understand their needs. He has been willing to try new things (extended hours, music, special events, menu changes) to open the Burrito to a new and wider breed of customers. Summer at the Burrito will be even better with the newly upgraded veranda.
- Pros: Family friendly, great bar, very good food offering great value
unbelievable specials

I must not be eating at the same restaurant as the people giving these bad reviews. Every time I go in the Flying Burrito the staff is very friendly and accommodating. I went there on a wednesday night and the wine was half off and basically the whole menu was five dollars. The size of the plate I received for five dollars was UNBELIEVABLE. I had salmon and spinach enchiladas and if i recall there were chicken enchiladas on special that night. The hardest part was trying to decide what to eat. Me and my girlfriend both ate generously and had several drinks and our tab was less than 20 bucks. In this day and age its hard to find a place like that. whatever they are doing I hope they keep it up. I wouldn't change a thing about the place. I can't wait until summer gets here so we can eat on the patio.
- Pros: service, food, drinks. prices
no soul

I have given the new burrito a few chances. While they have some nice bartenders. The wait staff is terrible and the owner does not have the charm or soul of Phil. It is sad to see the Burrito turn into something you could find at any strip mall in america(just what we need another chain). Getting rid of the fish specials and ENCHILADAS. What is this guy thinking. Then not paying Phil for his recipes and telling the staff phil is not welcome back into the institution he started. I think his karma will come back to bite him. Do us all a favor change the name so you won't tarnish the legacy that was one of the great chapel hill meeting places. They did do one good thing cleaning the bathroom. Sad when that is the only thing you can improve upon.
- Pros: clean bathrooms, name
- Cons: food, owner, music selection, no fish or enchiladas

WOW,
I guess it is true when they say you have to have thick skin to be a restaurant owner these days. At the Burrito we are very proud to serve fresh coastal seafood specials every Friday and Saturday such as black tip shark, mahi and the sweet potato crusted flounder. With our menu enchilada dish we also serve enchiladas on the specials menu, my fav being the asparagus enchilada.
Keeping the original taste a huge concern of mine. When we reopened Phil was hired as a consultant to make sure the recipes were made in the same tradition. As well we have kept some of the original kitchen staff lead by Carlos who has been cooking for the Flying Burrito for over 9 years.
And to the Reviewer I wish you no bad karma and the next time you are in I would love to meet you and get you a Tecate on me. Now if 100 people come up and tell me they are the Reviewer and get a free Tecate then I know this City Search thing works :)
Thanks
Jim
'Reincarnated' Flying Burrito Is Wonderful!

I'm absolutely confused and disappointed by recent, poor reviews. I can't get enough of the flat-out wonderful food, service, and service at the revamped Flying Burrito. All of the dishes I've had during my many repeat visits over the past couple of months - from the legendary Flying Mayan to the best area hamburgers, in my opinion - have been amazingly prepared and delicious. I remember the old FB, but I'm hoping this new, wonderful incarnation will not be counted out - it is truly wonderful, and welcome addition to the Chapel Hill area restaurant scene.

Something has happened to this place. I used to come all the time! I took my Aunt here for what I thought was going to be a great experience with great food as I remembered it to be and I was terribly disapointed. Hopefully the reviews will get the staff to re-look at what has been happening and bring back satisfaction and good food! Sad. This used to be one of my most favorite places.

This is a great little Mexican restaurant in Chapel Hill. Its been around for years (if you get a chance check out their stand at the Durham Bulls), and still provides great service and excellent food. The salsa here is hands down my favorite.
