So much fun for kids!

by supervee87 at Citysearch

At Wheels, it's the fun that counts, and your kid will have a ton of fun. We've been going for 3 years now. The climbing ("habitrail") center is great fun for a rainy day, or even when it's too hot to go outside in the summer, and it's cheap fun. We love meeting friends at Wheels.

  • Pros: Fun! Great staff.
  • Cons: Food.

GREAT FAMILY EXPERIENCE

by rollerskatecritic at Citysearch

My family and i visited wheels this past weekend and had a great experience. The staff was well trained for every question that we had. We bought fun bands,( you get to go to all of the attractions with the fun band) what a great deal, for 12-15 dollars we were able to ride go karts which are great, they put down a new track. We also got time to enjoy the skating rink, boy has it changed since i was a kid. They have an awsome light show and 3 video screens. There DJ did a great job getting the kids involved with all of the games. We also were able to get to the fun house with our bands we went mini golfing and played in the play unit. It was great the kids loved it the have deffinetly cleaned it up since i was a kid it was clean and the kids had a great time. One of the employes was even able to talk me into climbing in with my kids. Over all i am pleased with the improvements in wheels and the staff. Things have changed a bunch since we were kids.

Lets get the story straight

by antony123 at Citysearch

As a Black Muslim I usually have to be very careful when I am eating out. My group was having a get together at Wheels Fun Center. We have certain dietary restrictions that cannot be compromised. Wow, did the staff at Wheels go out of their way to make us feel at ease. One of the staff members thought far enough a head to bring in special topping for the pizzas we ordered. They brought in turkey pepperoni, sliced green and red peppers, sauteed mushrooms and onions, kosher ground beef (pre-cooked). They even thought about the little ones, they brought in kosher beef hotdogs. What a feast. I give them a perfect A+ on their food.

The building was a little bit dirty, but what do you expect from a building that is probably 20 years old. They could do a lot better. A little scrubbing here and there and a fresh coat of paint would do wonders. That get a C+

The skates were in pretty bad shape, but I did see one of the staff members working on them. Good job. All in all their skates get a D-. They were not even spraying disinfectant into the skates after every use.

The bathrooms were another story. They appeared to be clean, but the men?s room smelled like urine. The frames that held up the curtains (what ever happened to the concept of doors on bathroom stalls) had not been painted. More than half of the stalls did not have paper in them. There were no towels to dry your hands on, as well as no soap or sanitizing agent. They give them a C- on their bathrooms.

The staff was friendly was friendly enough, but they were very under staffed. I guess with the economy the way it is, they have to cut corners somewhere. This lack of help did put a bind on customer service, but with their good attitudes, it was forgivable. Give then a B-.

The music was OK, but not my taste. I give the DJ a B+

So did they make the grade. yes. However, the place really does need a full cleaning. Their total score was about a C+, about average.

  • Pros: good staff, just not enough of them to offer good customer service
  • Cons: Need to repair or replace rent skates. Please spray skates with disinfectant

A Place That Our Community Needs For The Youth of Durham

by theprofez at Citysearch

Wheels has a bad rap! With must who don't understand that every business has it seasons. Wheels has committed to affordability for the public for many many years. They have had some of the best events for all ages, and continues to plan for the best in the future. It has been obvious that the are committed to the youth, and they are at least doing what many other entertainment companies in Durham are not doing. Must never offering the youth the chance or even a affordable event admission. What a chance we taken when we go to the city's so called best neighborhoods. You see murders, like (Peterson's) and common law thugs every wear, some wear Armani suits, and others wear robes. So what does this mean " Wheels is just as good as any other places, and it will not be one place we boycott, because cause of their loyalty. What about you bigger companies sponsoring events at this location, to change the stigma. Much like you do in Cary, where they have destroyed their own wives, and children. So lets not talk about reality! We need Wheels, and Wheels needs us. Come by and watch the place transition within the neat year. We the public have spoken, just like we did for Obama.Wheels we honor the vision, and hope that you remain in our community for twenty more years. Stop by share your concerns, and be fair to the people who are working hard in this economy, we are proud to have Wheels, and people who visit our city should go out enjoy, and support Wheels. We have destroyed enough, and the time for support, of some one who is remaining to support the public youth and their families. Oh you never seen the site. Keep up the go work Becky, Renee, Darryl, and Brenda.

  • Pros: Within Good Distance from Intersate.
  • Cons: Need Better Signage and Community Advertisement.

This place is a dump

by timeospeakout at Citysearch

I have lived in this area for 15 years and can say that wheels have done no renovations to the skating area in the 15 years that I have lived here. It is filthy and discusting! The skates have not been replaced in the past 15 years and if you don't believe me, go see for yourself. The last time I attended wheels with my child, I had to bring lysol spray to spray the inside of the skates because I feared I along with my child would contract a fungus. Needless to say, I will never attend wheels again unless they show appreciation for their customers and do the necessary improvements to the facilities. I truly believe if wheels were on the other side of town it would not be in this condition. People must stop being so complacent and continue to patronize this establishment...Boycott! Demand quality facilities and service. Be an example to yourself and your kids by showing them that they deserve more and should demand more by standing up and taking action.

  • Pros: A place for kids
  • Cons: Dangerous for kids

Run down, nasty, non caring customer service

by Allboys at Citysearch

My family & I just went

4/13/2008...OMG the skates are run down beyond the point, the inside of the skates are so ripped up, the outside of the toes were ripped open and there were no stoppers on the skates, the kids were actually using metal to floor and the person handing the skates out payed this absolutely NO MIND!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Management has a NO CARE attitude so every teenager they employee has the same NO CARE ATTITUDE...Thank you for giving our youth jobs, but with training like that, I rather them not have one.

Lets go to the JUNGLE GYM, when was the last time that thing was cleaned or serviced? The ballpits are nasty, the mats are ripping apart and the foam is coming loose from alot of the bars that the children climb on...... A GOOD PRESSURE WASH MIGHT BE GOOD to start with.

Oh and the camps they run, talk about unsupervised. Pretty much as long as they are not fighting U DO WHAT YOU WANT!!!

I SECOND THAT ...WE WILL NOT BE GOING BACK!!!!

  • Cons: POOR SKATES, NON CARING CUSTOMER SERVICE, NASTY JUNGLE GYM

does not honor coupons from birthday party's ANYTIME

by disappointedmom at Citysearch

I totally agree with the comments in reference to poor management issues. In addition, the owner is not much better. Because this is the only skating area in Durham, it allows this business to get away with a lot of issues. The coupons given out at birthday party's are misleading. If you are not standing at the door to read a sign that has been posted. The coupon is falsly advertises that the coupon can be used ANYTIME, because it cannot. In addition, there is no use of credit cards/debit cards with is often an inconvenience. The skates are totally outdated and appear to be skates used when this place was on Latta Rd. If we were valued customers, they would purchase better skates to be used. I was so disappointed on my last visit there. I WILL NEVER GO BACK! Anybody interested should check into giving these guys some competition in the Durham area. I think customers would be really interested in a new skating area for good clean fun where management is much more pleasant.

POOR MANAGEMANT AND NASTY BUILDING

by aryanjalyn at Citysearch

WHEELS IS SUPPOSE TO BE FOR THE COMMUNITY. iT IS NOT THE STAFF AS FAR AS MANAGEMENT IS VERY POOR. THE BATHROOMS ARE NASTY, THE SKATES ARE OUT DATED. TO ME IS NEEDS TO BE SHUT DOWN AND NE MANAGEMNT NEEDS TO BE BROUGHT IN. EVERYONE IS NOT CUT OUT TO BE A MANAGER. THEY DO HAVE CLASSES FOR MANAGEMENT TRAINEES. I WILL NEVER SPEND ANOTHER DIME IN WHEELS. I WILL GOTO RALEIGH OR CARY BEFORE I EVERY COME BACK HERE.

  • Pros: THERE ARE NO WORDS FOR THIS
  • Cons: THAT ALL THE STAFF HAS TO SUFFER

Wheels

by omgitsjamie at Citysearch

Wheels is a place that I would never take my children to. The food is not that good, especially not the pizza. The fun-in-motion is not cleaned regularly and is falling apart and the skates are in extremly poor condition. The staff is wonderful but in no way do they make up for the poor state this business is in.

good value for money

by ggardner at Citysearch

we went to Wheels sunday afternoon for our granddaughter's birthday party. We went to the roller skating rink and the go-karts. The birthday party ($85/10 guests) included a very large birthday cake that could have fed 40 kids. The prices at the concession stand were cheap compared to our skating rink places we have been. In the need to improve column, the bathrooms although clean, should be avoided, due to lack of privacy (no enclosed stalls). After two hours at the roller skating rink, the party wanted to drive the go-karts. It was only $2/person for the birthday party. The kids really enjoyed racing each other. Although, there was a problem with one of the go-karts, everyone had a great time.

In summary, although the facility has seen better days, its a great value for the money

  • Pros: inexpensive
  • Cons: bathrooms
